Having relocated from the moun
tains of North Georgia, artists Steve
and Suzy Dmetruk now live on St.
Simons Island. There Suzy finds in
spiration in the fresh air, sun, and
sweeping expanses of land, sea, and
sky. Her painting style is based on her
use of bold colors in an impressionistic
manner that is generally abstract and
often non-objective.
Suzy Dmetruk
was born in Salis
bury, N.C. and
spent most of her
youth in Atlanta.
She graduated
from Georgia Col
lege with a degree
in Art Education
and enjoyed 20
Dmetruk
years of teaching
art to students
4 to 94.
“The joyful sim
plicity of how
children view
the world,” she said, “is my anchor
in painting. I strive to capture the
essence of the subject matter and to
allow the painting to become the ex
pression of what I see and respond to.
I choose to express the joy that I expe
rience in life and in painting. I hope
that you, the viewer, enjoy what you
see in my work and let your imagina
tion explore along with me. As Oscar
Wilde once said, ‘A work of art is use
less. So is a flower.’”
Steve Dmetruk, who began wood-
Piece by Steve Dmetruk
working as a hobby in 2002
and then enhanced his skills by taking
courses and workshops, is a graduate
of the U.S. Naval Academy. He was a
Navy Supply Officer, and upon retire
ment from the Navy Reserves, he held
sales and marketing leadership posi
tions in in the hi-tech industry.
Steve especially enjoys challenging
projects. He has created rocking hors
es, Adirondack chairs, turned bowls,
segmented bowls, a Maloof-style
sculptured rocking chair, and a 1790s
Shenandoah grandfather clock. “I’m
excited to be exhibiting with my wife,”
he says. “Suzy is an accomplished ab
stract artist.”
