Young Poet winners announced
The Eugenia Price/Joyce Blackburn
Foundation in association with Golden
Isles Arts & Humanities presented the
16h Annual Young Poets Awards dur
ing the First Friday festivities earlier in
May.
The Young Poets Award was estab
lished to encourage and recognize the
literary talents of 9-12th grade public
and private students in Glynn County.
The 2019 winners are: Ninth grade:
Lisbel Ayala for her poem Conformity
Makes a Difference; Tenth grade: Lily
Seemann for her Untitled poem; Elev
enth grade: Edith Vasquez-Reyes for
her poem Different; and Twelfth grade:
Geoni Saxton for her poem I Am a Black
Girl.
All winners are Glynn Academy stu

check for $250 from Golden Isles Arts &
Humanities Executive Director, Heath
er Heath.
The theme of this year’s Young Poets
Award was “Different.” Students could
submit up to three poems for consider
ation in any style they choose, but the
work had to be reflective of the theme.
The entries were reviewed and scored
by four independent judges.
“We are always so impressed by
the caliber of work that these students
submit and are so appreciative of our
judges time,” said Heath. “It is a daunt
ing task and it was a difficult decision.
And we thank the Price/Blackbum
Foundation for the continued commit
ment to recognizing the literary talent of
our up and coming young writers.”
The Price-Blackbum Foundation has
been established to ensure the perpetu
ation of the accomplishments and com
mitments of the founders. The Founda
tion’s primary work is die continuation
of the literary legacy that has enriched
the lives of millions of readers. The work
of Eugenia Price and Joyce Blackburn
includes 57 titles that have been pub
lished in 18 languages and printed in
excess of 40 million copies worldwide.
The Price-Blackbum Foundation’s
support of the literary arts and educa
tion in Glynn Comity enhances the
educational and artistic involvement of
students as well as to perpetuate, pro
mote and celebrate the memory and
achievements of Eugenia Price and
Joyce Blackburn.
