Box 963 • Brunswick, GA 31521-0963 County budget Continued from Page 2 as it is,” Jordan said. “It enhances the safety of the community and it would hurt to lose 15 positions.” Chief Jordan said 69 firefighters had been hired during the past three years; many of them have cross trained as paramedics. The fire protection millage rate, paid by those in tax districts 3 (Ballard area), 4 (St. Simons Island) and 5 (Sea Island) is 2.08 mils. The west Glynn area (Tax district 2) does not pay the fire protection tax but, according to Jordan, does receive fire protection benefits. Changes for next year include a re duction in millage rates for city and Je- kyll Island residents. City residents will no longer pay 1.84 mils for the county police fund and Jekyll residents will no longer pay 1.828 mils for EMS services. This is a decrease in the comity’s revenues of $500,000 from city resi dents and $330,000 from Jekyll Island residents. City residents’ comity millage rate drops to 6.033 from 7.873; Jekyll resi dents’ rate drops from 6.691 to 4.863. All other districts millage rates remain the same. No millage rate increase is budgeted for 2020. Revenue breakdown: 75.6% all tax es; 12.3% charges for services; 4.3% intergovernmental revenue; 2.3% in vestment income; 2.2% other sources; 2.1% fines, forfeitures; 1.2% licenses / permits. The commission unanimously ap proved the budget. In other business: The BOC made a nmnber of appoint ments to various boards. They include: • Coastal Regional Commission - David Boland (currently serving); • Department of Family and Chil dren Services (DFCS) Board - Margie Harris • Department of Family and Chil dren Services (DFCS) Board repre senting the seat for a member of the Glynn County School System - Senetra Haywood • Marshes of Glynn Libraries Board representing the unincorporated area of the mainland - Denise Rocawich • Marshes of Glynn Libraries Board representing St. Simons Island - Gloria Bums (currently serving) and Kalista Morton • Revenue Study Committee - Lashonda Billue, Edward Farley and Paul Schofield • Glynn County Zoning Appeals Board - Michael Minutelli and • Board of Governors of the Bruns wick and Glynn County Development Authority - Wayne Johnson and Christy Jordan. JIA fee increases Continued from Page 11 here,” she said. In other business the Authority approved RFP 356 asking for propos als to write a golf master plan. The RFP states “The JIA is in terested in hearing from firms that have an eye on the future of golf and are visionary in their approach to fu ture use of the golf courses and any proposed reuse of acreage. Proposers are encouraged to consider partner ing with firms outside the golf indus try with expertise in planning and design of parks or other outdoor rec reation spaces to optimize proposals for the reuse of any acreage with the mission and goals of sthe JIA.” Hooks referenced the 2017 Nation al Golf Foundation Consulting study of Jekyll’s courses and said the Au thority is looking to eliminate future golf subsidies and reconfiguring the golf courses. “No decision has been made by the board about closing or refiguring the golf courses but we are open to it,” Hooks said. “We are looking at the future of golf and all land use options are open,” he said. The fiscal year 2020 budget project golf will lose over $548,000. It’s pro jected to lose $540,000 in fiscal year 2019. The overnight parking ordinance, introduced in May, is also on hold until the Authority can meet with the Georgia State Patrol. Chairman Mike Hodges and board member Bill Jones terms expire June 30. Chairman Hodges announced that this was his final JIA meeting. Vice Chair Kruger asked Hooks to prepare a resolution recogniz ing Hodges’ contributions to the JIA board.
