The City of Brunswick and Golden
Isles Arts & Humanities is proud to
announce that the Ritz Theatre lobby
and gallery space will be named in
honor of arts patron and community
leader, Mildred Huie Wilcox. The ded
ication of the space will take place on
Friday, July 5, during the First Friday
event at 6 p.m. The public is welcome
to attend.
Ms. Wilcox will be in attendance
and will have some of her favorite
paintings and scrapbooks on display
including a stunning portrait of her
self done by well-known Russian art
ist, Constatin Chatov. A short film,
The Two Mildreds made in 2011 by the
College of Coastal Georgia to honor
Millie and her mother, Mildred Huie,
will be screened in the Ritz Theatre
auditorium throughout the evening.
‘We wanted to find some way to
honor Millie for her years of service
not just to Golden Isles Arts & Hu
manities, but to the community,” said
Heather Heath, Executive Director.
“She has given so much of herself
to ensure that the arts play an impor
tant role in Glynn County. She is an
extraordinary individual and a role
model to all who aspire to serve their
community.”

board of directors and the City of
Brunswick both were enthusiastic in
supporting the renaming of the lobby
and gallery space. “This is a great way
to honor someone who has given so
much to the community,” said Mayor
Cornell Harvey. “We are delighted to
honor Ms. Wilcox this way.”
The Ritz will be open for First Fri
day from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Also in the
gallery is the Georgia Artists with
Disabilities exhibit on display through

by the St. Simons Rotary Grant Com
mittee for the projects’ focus on child
and family health, education, child
safety and family welfare. The grant
awards ranged from providing medi
cal supplies for sexual assault victims,
swim camps for youth with disabili
ties, Pack ‘n Plays to provide infants
safe sleeping conditions, laptops for
career coaching and grief workbooks
to support children who have suffered
loss of a loved one. These grants were
made possible through the commu
nity’s generous support of St. Simons
Rotary fundraisers such as RSM

The Sea Oats Garden Club recently presented the Brunswick-Glynn County
Library with three copies of the Children’s title “The Frightened Frog - An
Environmental Tale.” The book was written by Brenda Moore, Jean Ohlmann and
