Permar Local attorney Reid Zeh was in Glynn County State Court Friday, September 6 for a probation revocation hear ing in front of State Court Judge Douglas Gibson from the Waycross circuit. At the end of the hour long hearing, Judge Gibson re voked Zeh’s bail that had been previously granted for a reck less driving incident. Zeh was originally charged on June 22, 2018 for driving under the influence of alcohol and bonded out later that day. Zeh allegedly drove his ve hicle into a woman’s house on St. Simons Island and was lat er stopped by police for weav ing on Frederica Road. Zeh’s position as Glynn County State Court Public Defender ended after his June arrest. On August 2, 2019, in front of the same Judge Gibson, the DUI charge was dropped to reckless driving, and Zeh was ordered to serve 12 months’ probation, pay a $1,000 fine and perform community service. During the August 2 hear ing Judge Gibson also ordered Zeh to take anger manage ment classes in connection with a simple battery charge in which Zeh allegedly at tacked a man who was sitting with a woman at the bar at the King and Prince Hotel on St. Simons Island in March of 2018. While Zeh was placed on probation on August 2 for the reckless driving and ordered to pay the fine, serve commu nity service and attend anger management, the simple bat tery charges were dropped. Then, last week during the probation revocation hearing, Zeh’s probation for the reck less driving was revoked. He must now spend the 11 Turn to Page 4 Zeh Being the first week of the month, last week was ‘meeting week’ in Glynn County with the Mainland Planning Com mission scheduled to meet on Tuesday, the Brunswick City Commission on Wednesday and the County Commission on Thursday. As of Friday the Mainland Planning Commission will not reschedule this month and all agenda items will be ad dressed at their next meeting on Tuesday, October 1st. Also as of Friday no date had been set for a rescheduled City Commission meeting. The County Commission has rescheduled their make up meeting for Tuesday, Sep tember 10 in what will be a ‘special called meeting.’ Agenda items for the county include: • a Memorandum of Un derstanding with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center to house Glynn County emergency personnel, police, fire / EMS, and public works in FLETC’s dormitories dur ing a declared disaster; Turn to Page 10 Dorian City considers amending parking ordinance By Pamela Permar Shierling Parking is and has been a problem on some of the city’s residential streets. In order to remedy this the City of Brunswick will con sider for approval, probably at their next commission meet ing, an ordinance which limits operation of trucks and trail ers on certain city streets as well as a new ordinance sec tion that prohibits trucks and trailers from parking on cer tain residential streets. The amended ordinance defines truck as “any motor vehicle, or combination of mo tor vehicle and trailer, which either weighs more than 6,000 pounds, or has more than six wheels, or has a height great er than nine feet measured from the road surface.” The amended ordinance lists 18 streets / highways as approved truck routes. How ever trucks may make de liveries or pick up freight or passengers at a location which is not on a designated truck route, so long designated truck routes are used to the extent that is possible. There are exceptions of course including emergency vehicles. A new section has been added to the ordinance which prohibits parking of multi wheeled vehicles, buses, and trailers on residential streets. The exception is temporari ly parked commercial vehicles making a delivery or pickup. This ordinance amendment was scheduled for approval at the cancelled September 4 City Commission meeting.
