Cason also suggested looking at the possibility of four laning either First Street or Fourth Street from Highway 17 to Highway 341. Mayor Harvey pared it down to four laning Fourth St. from Highway 17 to Altama. Alberson said he wasn’t sure the traffic volume was enough to justify a four lane road. Drumm said the DOT is pushing the city to make Goucester a two lane road and create more parking. Cason said, “We need to keep Gloucester the way it is. We need to look to the future.” • $9.5 million paving / street re pairs including Altama / MLK; Park- wood; Albany St.; Norwich St; various others. • $2 million for trails including $1.6 million for a bike trail from Over look Park to the Torras Causeway; $400,000 for a bike trail on MLK from Prince to Gloucester. • $650,000 to restore the sec ond and third floors of the Ritz The atre into apartments or hotel rooms. Drumm said he had spoken to the Col lege (College of Coastal Georgia) about the possibility of hospitality students running a small hotel. • $500,000 for Liberty Ship park for possible dock, boat lift, boat ramp, fish cleaning stations and amphitheater. • $700,000 for approximately 20 police vehicles. Chief Kevin Jones said if the department were fully staffed, he would not have enough cars for all the officers. Chief Jones also suggested a joint project with the Glynn County Police Dept, and the Glynn County Sheriffs Dept, to build a new shooting range. According to Chief Jones the EPA is shutting down the current range lo cated behind the Sheriffs Dept, be cause lead is seeping into the marsh. No amount was placed on this item. Mary Ross Park Continued from Page 1 Plan C is the smallest and also has the minimum number of toilets, no in formation center and a large overhang for the picnic tables and benches. The overhangs on plans A and B have sup port columns. Plan C does not have the columns, giving it the look of an old railroad station. Plan D is similar to Plan A but with the reduced number of toilets. Bennett liked the idea of the infor mation center in the building. He said it could be used as a ticket window for events like the Stewbilee. Ussery said he did not include heat ing and air conditioning in the build ing, but put in ventilation vents to keep it from getting too hot in the sum mer. He pointed there are no doors on the bathrooms so that will help keep it cooler as well. He added that the bath rooms, like many public bathrooms, were designed in a way that passers-by cannot see in. Bennett asked why there was no air conditioning. Ussery said it wasn’t necessary and would be very expensive to run, especially with the ventilation vents that are required. He added that a small ceiling heater could be added to keep it a bit warmer in the winter to keep it from freezing. Ussery said, “It’s known that people love to torture bathrooms, so we de signed this one for easy maintenance and cleaning. Also, it’s very important in public bathrooms to eliminate the doors. People don’t like to touch the door or door handle, so they use a pa per towel and drop it on the floor next to the door.” Ussery also said there was some flexibility with the showers in the bath rooms. He said rise-off showers could be located on the outside of the building and eliminate the indoor shows, which would save some space. URA member Martha Johnson asked if the bathrooms were handi capped accessible? Ussery said yes, and both the men’s and women’s had the required handi capped facilities. Ussery noted that the splash pad area was “fixed” due to its proximity to the park’s drainage structure. One issue that did come up was whether to fence off the splash pad. Ussery’s designs showed it fenced, but URA chairman LaRon Bennett said the city commission may want to leave it open. “I think the city wants it (splash pad) left open,” said Bennett, “they have been hesitant about fencing it off.” Saying splash pads are becoming more popular Bennett also said that other communities have had problems with people who come and stay all day at splash pads. “So maybe a fence could help control that,” said Bennett, “But that is a city commission decision.” That decision, with all the others, said Bennett, will be up to the city commission. Ussery said he could get some cost figures by this week. The URA expects to take their rec ommendation to the city during their second meeting in October. Coleman Continued from Page 1 and one count of failure to account for premiums in excess of $500. The Coleman’s were indicted in June by a Glynn County Grand Jury. The Coleman’s were charged in January by The State Board of Work ers’ Compensation with 15 felony vio lations of the Georgia Insurance Code. Both Bob and Sherry Coleman have declared their innocence, and Coleman has remained in his position as Post 2 At Large county commissioner. The Coleman’s insurance agency, Coleman Insurance, was purchased by Jeffrey Guest in August 2018.
