Page 8, September 30, 2019, The Islander Jekyll Island Arts Assn October Exhibit presents Fusion Fusion, the collaborative work of creative photographer Ann Kemp and fused glass and mosaic artist Denise Murphy, will be featured during the Jekyll Island Arts Association’s ex hibit at Goodyear Cottage on Jekyll Island, October 1 to 31. An artist re ception, which is free and open to the public, will be held Sunday, October 6 from 1-3 p.m. Kemp and Murphy’s vision to cre ate a unique body of companion art for home and office represents a dynam ic synthesis of individual talent, as well as a unique partnership of pho tographic imaging and skilled glass- work creations. They fuse their work in an imaginative way that is pleas ing, playful and contemplative. Denise Murphy believes in express ing her emotions by bringing beauty, light and the juxtaposition of color and texture into view. “At the same time,” she adds, “I want to stimulate the tactile and visual senses of the observer. Transforming raw materi als into objects of art challenges me to achieve that delicate balance of skill ful technique and creativity. This is what makes glass so compelling and alluring to me. It calls me to the kiln for that next exciting work that will emerge.” Photographer Ann Kemp sees her personal journey with her camera as dynamic, challenging and often ex hilarating. “I strive to capture the overlooked,” she states. “This may be seen as a form, shadow, shape, color, movement, or texture. The com monplace often becomes the unusual and the imperfect becomes mysteri ous, allowing the viewer an opportu nity for subjective interpretation and contemplation.” Murphy and Kemp have exhibited award winning work in numerous stu dios and juried shows in the country. Besides the Jekyll Island Art Associa tion, current exhibits include Island Art Association on Amelia Island, The Vault in Jacksonville, Coastal Cot tage, and Fern & Dina’s gallery in Fernandina Beach. Their love of art and pride in their work are both re flected in the artistry and attention to detail they so carefully achieve in this presentation.
