October 28, 2019, The Islander, Page 5 Exchange Club Fair Continued from Page 1 Midnight Madness starts at 6:00 pm Saturday and lasts until midnight when a $30 ticket will give you admis sion to all rides as many times as you want between 6:00 and midnight. This year’s events include: Rozier’s Racing Pigs, Sam’s Path Exotic Pet ting Zoo, and the World of Wonders Amazing Show. In an interview with The Islander, Barnhill said, “World of Wonders is a great, old style side show that will be held under a big top circus tent and include fire eaters, sword swallow ers and Texas Tommy’s Wild West Revue.” According to Texas Tommy, his show includes twin cowgirl rope spin ners, whip crackers, rodeo clown stunts, a whiskey barrel escape, com edy juggling and a girl who bends horseshoes. As always the Fair will feature the Exhibit Hall, which will include local businesses, non-profit organizations and churches, and Craft Barn along with the Midway and all sorts of car nival food. Another feature this year will be an exhibition by Golden Island R. C. - ra dio controlled vehicles. The Golden Isles College and Ca reer Academy will have a booth fea turing chefs-to-be from the school’s Culinary Program, who will be rais ing money for GICCA scholarship programs. On Friday and Saturday, Miss Rodeo U.S.A 2019, Heather Morri son from Letts, Iowa, will be back for photos and to meet local folks as she rounds out her year as queen of the rodeo. Miss Rodeo was last here for the Exchange Club’s Rodeo by the Sea fund raiser. Miss Rodeo’s visits have also become annual events, and she al ways stops by the Wolfson Children’s Hospital at the Southeast Georgia Healthcare System’s Brunswick cam pus to visit with the kids. Barnhill said no article about the Fair would be complete without a mention of longtime Club member Frenchie Blanchard, who has worked the Fair for over 50 years. A former Brunswick Fire Marshal, Blanchard is in charge of manpower for the Fair, coordinates emergency services and runs the Lost & Found. The Lost & Found is not just for purses, wallets, car keys and glasses. On occasion parents and children have gotten separated in the crowd and the kids are taken to the Lost & Found where, under Blanchard’s watchful eye, they can wait in safety for their parents to pick them up. Blanchard will be located in the wooden building at the entrance to the Midway. “Mr. Blanchard has been doing this for as long as any of the Exchange Club members can remember,” said Barnhill. At 75 years old, the Exchange Club of Brunswick is one of the oldest chari ties in Glynn County. All the money they raise stays with other local non-profits that primarily focus on children like CASA, Com munities in Schools, Sparrow’s Nest, Children in Action, and the Hope 1312 Collective. Every year at Christmas time the Club donates bicycles to under privi leged children through the Glynn County School System. And I don’t mean a handful of bikes, I mean truck loads of bicycles. The Club’s three big fund raisers are the Fair, the Rodeo by the Sea, and the Turkey Shoot. They sponsor Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Fire Fighter Ap preciation Day and the Student of the Month and Student of the Year programs where Glynn Academy and Brunswick High students can earn college scholarship money. They also sponsor an annual Citi zenship Award that goes to one stu dent in each local eighth grade class.
