Alex Atwood to speak at November GIRW Meeting
Alex Atwood, Commissioner of the
Department of Administrative Ser
vices, will be the guest speaker at the
November meeting of the Golden Isles
Republican Women on Monday, No
vember 11.
Atwood was appointed Commis
sioner of the Department of Adminis
trative Services in 2019 by Governor
Brian Kemp. Atwood has an extensive
and distinguished judicial, legislative,
military and law enforcement career.
Prior to joining DOAS, Atwood
served as the Glynn County chief mag
istrate judge. He is a retired Colonel in
the United States Marine Corps Re
serve, former State Representative of
House District 179 and former Special
Agent who worked for multiple federal
law enforcement agencies in numerous
commands and operational roles before
retiring as Director of Legal Training
for the Department of Homeland Secu
rity Federal Law Enforcement Train
ing Center.
Over the years, Atwood has received
numerous accolades for excellence in
the legal profession and community
service. He graduated from Georgia
State University with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Criminal Justice,
followed by a Master of Arts degree in
International Relations from Webster
College and a Juris Doctorate in Law
(Cmn Laude) from Atlanta’s John Mar
shall School of Law. He is also a gradu
ate of the Federal Executive Institute,
Charlottesville, Virginia.

gia Department of Administrative Ser
vices has provided dedicated service
to the enterprise of state government.
The core mission of DOAS is to cap
ture operational efficiencies, ensure
legal compliance, improve workforce
performance and provide enterprise
leadership, business services and solu
tions to state government.
The meeting will be held at the
Bonefish Grill in Retreat Plaza on the
Island. Check-in and seating starts
at 11:30 with the program starting
promptly at noon. The cost is $20 which
covers lunch, beverage, dessert, and
gratuity. To ensure adequate seating,
