Coastal Incentive Grant request for proposal announced The Georgia Coastal Management Program (GCMP) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Coastal Resources Division (CRD) has announced the availability of grant funds for projects that further the objectives of the program. Since 1998, the GCMP has administered a program to provide federal financial assistance to eligible applicants to protect, manage and restore coastal communities and habitats; restore coastal historic structures; revitalize urban waterfronts; and increase rec reational opportunities along Geor gia’s coast. Pre-applications and all support ing documentation must be received at the CRD Headquarters by 4:30 p.m, Friday, December 6, 2019. Eli gible applicants include State govern ments (except GA DNR), qualified lo cal governments; and State colleges, universities and research institutions. CRD seeks changes to shellfish growing rules A division of the Georgia Depart ment of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking to change the state’s Saltwa ter Fishing Regulations to provide for shellfish mariculture in estuarine wa ters and to comply with a law passed by the General Assembly earlier this year. DNR’s Coastal Resources Division (CRD) on Tuesday asked the state Board of Natural Resources to con sider new rules that would adopt the overarching National Shellfish Sani tation Program Model Ordinance; es tablish commercial shellfish seed sizes for mariculture; set requirements for shellfish seed health and importation; and set criteria for subtidal water bot tom leases and lease terms. If approved by the board, the new rule would additionally create a pro cess for certifying shellfish hatcheries and nurseries in Georgia. Board ap proval would also bring the depart ment into compliance with House Bill 501, passed by the General Assembly and signed by Gov. Brian Kemp on May 6, 2019. The law goes into effect March 1, 2020. The public will have the opportu nity to provide comment on the pro posed rules beginning today until 4:30 p.m. Nov. 21, 2019. A public comment meeting will also be held at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6, 2019, at the Susan Shipman Environmental Education Center, One Conservation Way, Brunswick, Ga. Eligible projects must be physically lo cated within at least one of the eleven (11) designated Georgia counties with in the Georgia Coastal Management Program (GCMP). Projects which are regional in scope or which partner with multiple counties must be physi cally located within the GCMP eligible county area that includes Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Charlton, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, Mc Intosh, and Wayne. Coastal Incentive Grant (CIG) funding themes include: 1) GCMP Di rected Project 2) Access to Coastal Re sources 3) Secondary and Cumulative Impacts to Coastal Natural Systems 4) Education Programs 5) Coastal Non-point Source Pollution 6) Perfor mance Indicators for the GCMP. CIGs are reimbursement grants with contracting periods of 12 months (deliverables must be completed within the time period of October 1, 2020 - September 30, 2021). The eli gible maximum award amount will be $80,000.00 (theme related) with a matching requirement of 1:1 non-fed- eral match required. Eligible entities are encouraged to take advantage of the funding op portunities available through the CIG program and to take an active role in balancing the economic develop ment in Georgia’s coastal area with the preservation of natural, environ mental, historical, archaeological, and recreational resources for the ben efit of Georgia’s present and future generations. Del egates were Reba Reyna, Adelaide Lopez, Gussie Gammon and Anna Hepner. Laverita Ekrok attended as a member of the CRWC. Speakers included The Honor able Suzanne Crouch, Lt. Governor of Indiana and Kayleigh McEnany, National Press Secretary, Donald J. Trump for President. Coastal Republican Women’s Club was Chartered in 1989 and has a membership of 81 and meets the fourth Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Brunswick Country Club.
