And in the event of a hurricane, we have a heavy weather plan in place,” he said. The heavy weather plan consists of moving ‘assets’ (barges) to safe loca tions. These locations have been iden tified according to the team. Additional mooring pilings are in the process of being installed and will help keep the barges in place during heavy weather. The team stated several times that they have no concerns about the Golden Ray during hurricane season as long as it remains intact and, they stated, that their engineers assured them that it would not move during a storm. The team would not give a specific start date for the cutting and disman tling of the ship. The target date is Oc tober 1 and it will take eight weeks to cut and lift the Golden Ray out of St. Simons Sound. The team did say that the Versabar (VB 10,000) would not be sent to an other job; that it remains fully dedi cated to the Golden Ray to the point that it has been modified for this par ticular job. The VB 10,000, in port at Fernan- dina, does move off shore periodically to allow room for port traffic. The team discussed the effects of COVID on the work. A total of ten workers and support personnel tested positive for the virus. No one is se questered currently. However, there is concern regarding future COVID incidents. ‘We do not want to have to shut down the cutting operation,” Wiker said. A plan is in place to obtain a vessel to house only the salvage crew. These personnel will be quarantined for two weeks and then enter the housing barge. They will remain there for the entire cut. They will also wear masks and practice social distancing as will ev eryone; follow all the CDC COVID guidelines. All work site members including the on-water group and the command center group will be isolated. A medical group will monitor all the workers. The team said they were aware that the public had many questions and were planning to hold virtual town hall meetings so the public could ask questions.
