Page 10, February 8, 2021, The Islander Klews One of our most faithful readers is my cousin Judy in Winter Haven, Florida. Congratu lations to Judy and welcome to our family her newest grand, John Mi chael, son of Dirck and Melissa Van Clief. One more reason for this virus to go away so I can welcome in person this precious new life. It has been a very long year without face to face time with family and special friends who live further away than our daily drives can take us! Seems like local churches take two steps forward and then one step back in trying to return to more active meet ings and worship times. ZOOM is great but I really long for a big hug from my church family. We welcome Robert “Bo” Hutch ens as Pastor of Northside Baptist Church and look forward to receiving news from this local church family. Nothing seems to brighten my day like news of a new baby. The sun shines brighter, there is joy in my heart. We are reminded once again of God’s great love. Hunt for Jekyll treasure The Jekyll Island Treasure hunt is on and runs through February 28. Join in this unique outdoor scav enger hunt called Island Treasures where local artists create glass floats and hide them around the island. In the early 1900s, east coast fish ermen used hollow glass balls, or floats, on their nets as markers. Occa sionally, the floats would break loose and wash ashore for lucky beachcomb ers to find and keep. Collecting these rare, highly sought after glass floats became a hobby in the 1950s. Today, Jekyll Island hand-picks artists from across the country to cre ate one-of-a-kind glass floats for its annual Island Treasures event. The glass floats are part of a hide- and-seek style game played on Jekyll Island throughout January and Feb ruary. Each day, volunteers called Beach Buddies will hide clear globes around the island for lucky guests to find and redeem for a real glass float.
