GIDA approves grants, loans

Eight Brunswick businesses
were approved for ‘Share the Fu
ture’ grants from the Golden Isles
Development Authority (GIDA)
and one business was approved for
a $97,000 loan from the Revolving
Loan Fund.
Eckerd Seafood, Inc. at 729
Bay Street has been in business
in Brunswick for 30 years. The
$97,000 loan is for expansion of
their current freezer. Eckerd whole
sales fresh fish, shrimp, and crab.
Glynn County’s Revolving Loan
Fund was created by a grant award
from the Georgia Department of
Community Affairs (DCA). The
interest rate on the loan is 3% and
loans are up to $100,000.

• Brands, 5581 Habersham St.
- $10,000 placemaking grant. Sig
nage and paint exterior of building.
• The Brick, 1505 MLK Jr. Blvd.
- $10,000 placemaking grant. Up
date mural.
• Brunswick African American
Cultural Center, 1623 Albany St.
- $10,000 placemaking grant. En
hance exterior appearance.
• Coastal Armory, 5460 Haber
sham St. - $10,000 innovating /
education grant. Manufacturing
equipment and technical training
needed for new business.
• The Park, 1617-19 Norwich St.
- $10,000 placemaking grant. Flip
ping abandoned property for food
truck / local market / community
kitchen / bar / event place.
• Recovery Solution Worldwide,
290 / 310 Green Swamp Road
$10,000 placemaking grant. Three
businesses work from this location.
• Willie’s Weenie Wagon, 3599
Altama Ave - $10,000 placemaking
grant. Improve exterior of building,
new chairs, exterior fans.

The Authority Board also ap
proved a Memorandum of Under
standing (MOU) with Glynn Coun
ty for a one year extension of the
operation and funding agreement.
The extension is for one year only
while terms of a new agreement
are worked out.
Last year GIDA sold the FLETC
dorms and has invested that money.
According to GIDA President and
CEO Ryan Moore, the Authority’s
operating budget is self-sustaining
through these investments.
Glynn County supports GIDA
with $800,000 annually and will do
so through FY 2025 with the agree
ment extension.
