school.
Camden County’s Outstanding Stu
dent for August, DiUion Brown, is a se
nior and a member of the golf team as
well as FBLA. He’s considering Emory
University, the University of Georgia and
Mercer University, where he hopes to
study Marine Biology. In die Top 10 in his
class, Brown has spent several summers
shadowing career people in their jobs.
Glynn Academy’s Outstanding Stu
dent for September was dancer Carly
Burgstiner. A senior Carly is an Honor
Roll student who is also a teaching as
sistant at the Jill Stanford Dance Center.
She is also on the Junior Board of the
South Coast Bank. She plans to work
on an Entrepreneurship degree at the
College of Coastal Georgia and plans on
going through the Dance Educators of
America program. She also has her own
business making items and decorations
using oyster shells.
Werren Li is Brunswick High’s Stu
dent of the Month for September and is
focused on Science, Math and Technology.
Along with being in the Advanced Place
ment Language program, Li is in die top
5% of his class. He thanked his teachers
for inspiring him to work hard. He also
thanked his parents who came here from
China and worked to provide him a good
life and opportunity. He plans to major in
math or business in college.
Camden Comity chose River Martin as
their Student of the Month for Septem
ber. River is a four-year band member
who plans to study history and philoso
phy at the University of Georgia before
attending law school. Saying her focus
was constitutional law, she said that
seems like the best way to give back to
the community.
October’s Student of the Month for
Glynn Academy is Jaylin Kerr who is also
a four-year band member. His teacher
said he always persevered and his smile
always brings joy to whatever class he’s
in. Thanking his motiier, Kerr said he
was happy with the person he is becom
ing. He plans to apply to Emory Univer
sity or New York University law school
where he is considering corporate or im
migration law. “I want to help people,” he
said.
Rebecca Butier moved to Glynn from
Florida four years ago and is now Bruns
wick High School’s Student of the Month
for October. She was sponsored by her
grandmother, BHS biology teacher Kitty
Hamilton. Rebecca is a member of the
National Honor Society and is a ‘Pirate
Buddy 5 for kids with special needs. She
will graduate in December and plans to
attend the University of North Florida’s
nursing program.
Inaaya Raoof is Camden County’s
Student of die Month for October. Intro
ducing her, Inaaya’s teacher said, “I have
never met a student more committed to
academics than Inaaya. She is the high
est ranking student at Camden County
High.” Stating her passion is to help oth
ers, Inaaya said is applying for the pre
medical programs at Georgia Tech or
Johns Hopkins.
Introducing Camden County’s Stu
dent of the Month for November, Ex
change Club past president J.P. Thornton
jokingly told Daniel Wheeler he needed
to continue his good work through the
next couple months. Wheeler, also known
as Trent, said when he was a fresh
man he wanted to be a football player.
But, he added with a smile, “That’s not
happening.” Wheeler said he spoke to his
father, a Brunswick High alum and King-
sland businessman, about his future and
he told me, ‘You don’t have to reinvent
die wheel, just create something that will
help people.”
The Islander congratulates all these
fine young people and wishes them well
in all their future endeavors, along with
expressing our appreciation to the Ex
change Club of Brunswick for all they do
for Glynn.
