I shoulda been a
lawyer...
...or at least that’s what my mother
said.
But that probably had more to do
with my proclivity to argue than my
proclivity to work hard and make
grades in school.
When I started writing this column
last Tuesday it was 14 days to the
big election - and I mean huge elec
tion - not only did Glynn see record
numbers of early voters during the
first week of early voting, according to
the news that morning something like
seven million people had early voted
nationwide as of October 22.
According to what I could turn up,
35 states had early voting that start
ed prior to Tuesday, October 22, with
some states starting as early as Sep
tember 20 - seven and a half weeks of
early voting seems ridiculous to me,
but then I’m an election day voter, so
what do I know.
Only two states, Alabama and New
Hampshire, do not offer early voting.
Good for them.
I figured I won’t have many more
chances, or issues, in which to write
about what is facing our great na
tion, so I decided to take another
opportunity.
You may have realized by now that
a lot of the political fodder I use in this
column comes from my conversations
on social media.
That is because social media is
where I reach the most varied group
of politically interested people.
Maybe ‘varied’ isn’t the right word
because like a coin there’s only two
sides here - Republican and Democrat,
conservative and liberal.
However, I align as much with Lib
ertarians as I do Republicans, but I
always voted Republican.
Two things that I always wonder
and ask about on social media are a.)
why do Democrats consistently attack
Trump and rarely, if ever, talk what
Kamala Harris has accomplished in
almost four years as vice president;
and b. ) why don’t Democrats ever an
swer questions.
Regarding the former, I’ve com
mented on social media that whenever
Ms. Harris’s accomplishments come
up, Democrats routinely ignore the
comment and attack Trump.
I mentioned it recently with this,
“During Kamala Harris’s town hall
last night, I was surprised that CNN’s
Anderson Cooper had the chutzpah to
press the VP on derogatory comments
she made in the past about the wall on
the southern border calling it “stupid,”
“un-American” and a “medieval vanity
project.”
I was, however, not at all surprised
at Harris’s response... she laughed and
then immediately started criticizing
Donald Trump and blaming him for
the border problems.

Even members of her own party are
beginning to comment on her ‘word
salad.’
CNN’s David Axelrod called out her
“word salad city.”
And by the way, she’s now flip
flopped on the wall issue saying she’s
going to spend hundreds of millions of
dollars on it.
In case you don’t remember, David
Axelrod was a Senior Advisory to for
mer President Barack Obama, so if
he’s questioning Harris... then some
thing must be amiss with her.
And it’s no secret that she either
hides from the media or only sched
ules softball interviews with the likes
of Jimmy Kimmel and Howard Stern.
Regarding the latter, I frequently
pose questions on social media aimed
at Democrats to which they never
respond.
I’ve asked questions like, ‘Which
would you rather have, a.) no more
taxes taken from your social security
check or b.) have your taxes be used
to pay for sex change operations for
prison inmates?
No Democrat has touched that one
yet.
In fact, I added a comment point
ing out that during my career as a re
porter covering local government, I’ve
seen two County sheriffs discussing
the cost of medical treatment for in
mates, and it’s always very high.
It’s high, but it’s necessary and
justified if it’s treatments like chemo
therapy, dialysis, a pregnancy or some
other life dependent procedure.
However transitioning from one
gender to the other is not a life depen
dent procedure. It, like plastic sur
gery, is elective and absolutely should
not be paid for by anyone other than
the person electing to have it.
I addressed this sex change for
prisoners issue about two weeks ago
here in Back Talk, as well as on social
media and still haven’t received any
answers.
I recently posted a meme noting
that “If he was gonna destroy it, he
would have done it in 2016 and if she
was gonna fix it, she would have done
it in the last 3.5 years.”
One response was, “Nobody re
members John McCain’s thumb down
vote July 28, 2017 killing Trump’s ef
fort to repeal ObamaCare? Yall seem
to be suffering from Selective Memory
Loss Syndrome.”
What the...?!?!?!?
I have no idea what that means,
but I do love to argue.
