Forward Brunswick breaks ground on Reynolds Cottages
By Pamela Permar-Shierling
Working toward the City of Bruns
wick’s renaissance, Forward Brunswick,
a 501c3 non profit, broke ground last
week (Oct. 24) in its Reynolds Cottages
Project.
“We want to create a community
where people get to know their neigh
bors,” Lance Sabbe, Forward Brunswick’s
Executive Director said.
“The cottages are quality homes for
the ‘missing middle income’ group,” he
continued.
“Reynolds Cottages is housing for
Glynn’s workforce including young fami
lies, and seniors looking to downsize.”
The site is located at 2400 Reynolds
St. which is that of the former Reynolds
Street school, tom down several years
ago.
Brunswick Mayor Cosby Johnson com
mented, “This property has sat vacant a
long time. Now we will have connectivity.
People who would not be able to own then-
own home will now be able to do so.”
“Home is the first place you build
hope,” he said. “So many people move
from one rental property to another. It’s
hard to fix generational poverty but we
are tiying.”
Keeva Kase, CEO / President Commu
nities of Coastal Georgia Foundation, de
scribed Reynolds Cottages as a program-
related investment (PRI).
A PRI is a type of social investment
that foundations make to achieve their
philanthropic goals. Like grants, PRIs are
vehicles for making inexpensive capital
available to organiza
tions that are addressing
social or environmental
concerns.
Kase said after part
ners invested $500,000 lo
cal banks came on board.
South Coast Bank and
Trust and Southeastern
Bank are two of Forward
Brunswick’s partners.
“If our community is
going to grow,” said Ryan
Moore, President / CEO
Golden Isles Develop
ment Authority, “we must
have workforce housing.”
Reynolds Cottages
will be very affordable.
Flexible housing options
include rental and for-
sale homes, starting at
$145,000 for purchase
and $675/month for rent.
All units will be equipped
with washer / dryer, high
speed internet with com
munity Wi-Fi network.
