CCGA to dedicate bench Page 8, October 28, 2024, The Islander S.H.A.R.E. Non-Profit employee of the month Mary Deal, speech therapist, has worked with S.H.A.R.E. Speech, Hearing & Rehab for nearly 20 years. She received her Bachelor’s / Master’s degree from Armstrong University in Savannah. She has extensive work experience in both the private sector and the pub lic school system. For speech therapy to be success ful for the client it takes teamwork with the client and the family and the therapist, Mary said. Daily exercises at home are necessary and crucial for the client to receive positive change in communication skills. Each person may have a different outcome depend ing on his / her particular abilities. The main goals of speech are to im prove skills that allow more effective communication. Once a client has been identified as needing speech therapy; a doctor needs to call or fax the script for a speech and hearing evaluation/screen ing to S.H.A.R.E. at 912 264-6190. Starting in November, Mary will conduct hearing screenings at S.H.A.R.E. on Thursdays from 10:30 - 2:30 for children and adults. The office is located off Parkwood Drive in Brunswick behind the hos pital park/playground area at 2228 Starling Street. S.H.A.R.E. Takes Medicare, Med icaid, most private insurance and pri vate pay (sliding income fee scale). The School of Business and Pub lic Management at the College of Coastal Georgia will host a memo rial bench dedication ceremony hon oring Dr. Mary Eleanor Wickersham on Thursday, Nov. 7, starting a 3:30 p.m. The dedication ceremony will take place at the east end of Lake Teel at the College’s Brunswick campus. Parking is located in front of Coffin Hall. Attendees will need to walk a short distance on a paved path to the ceremony location. The community is invited to attend this special ceremony highlighting the life and work of Dr. Wickersham. Literary Guild Event Friday, November 8 - A Celebra tion of Children’s Books - 10:30 AM - St. Simons Casino Theater (530 Beachview Dr). Four authors will discuss their books. The event is free for Literary Guild members and $10 for non-members. Reservations are required and may be made at www.
