Lucas Center receives grant
to help nonprofits

Saying it was an $8 million invest
ment in the community, Sabbe said
Forward Brunswick was supplying $3
million, which is what be was asking
the BOC to help fund. “We are trying
to cover as much of that as possible,” he
said.
Sabbe said by partnering with the city
they had gotten an infrastructure grant
from the Georgia Dept, of Community
Affairs for $2.5 million that would be
used to upgrade the water and drainage
systems, and install fire hydrants.
While Sabbe did not mention a spe
cific dollar amount they were looking
for from the county, he asked for a let
ter of support they could show to other

Sabbe said they have letters of com
mitment for access to the $8 million.
BOC chairman Wayne Neal (Dist.
3) asked if they were going to provide
housing options for first responders and
school teachers.
Sabbe said they would prefer them,
but there is a legal aspect that they were
looking into.
Sabbe added that since the Reynolds
Cottages ground breaking in late Octo
ber they have already received about 80
people filling out their online applica
tion for residency.
The BOC listened and asked a few
questions but did not commit one way
or the other to any financial assistance.

for Entrepreneurship at the Col
lege of Coastal Georgia has been
awarded a $450,000 grant from
the St. Marys Methodist Founda
tion. The transformative funding,
which will be distributed over the
next three years, will fuel the ex
pansion of the ACCELER8 Non-
Profit program across the region,
enabling the Lucas Center to pro
vide even greater resources, men
torship, and growth opportunities
for nonprofit leaders and their
organizations.

the grant, which marks a major
milestone in our mission to sup
port and empower entrepreneurs,
small businesses, and nonprofit
leaders,” said Executive Director
of the Art & Lindee Lucas Cen
ter for Entrepreneurship Ande
Noktes.
The ACCELER8 NonProfit (AC-
CELER8 NP) program focuses on
equipping nonprofit leaders with
the tools, strategies, and networks
necessary to scale their missions
and maximize their community
impact.
It is an eight-week course where
participants will have lessons
on goal setting, communication
strategies, marketing, financial
management and budgeting, stra
tegic planning, board develop
ment, and fundraising.
The new funding will expand
access to more organizations and
enhance the comprehensive sup
port system it provides to partici
pants. The Lucas Center will open
a location at the College of Coastal
Georgia’s Camden Center as part
of this expanded programming.

St. Marys Methodist Foundation
in supporting our regional non
profits as we amplify the reach
and impact of our ACCELER8 NP
program, and work alongside even
more organizations dedicated to
creating meaningful change across
our region,” Noktes said.
The Lucas Center believes that
entrepreneurship is a vehicle for
economic empowerment, trans
forming families and communities
by breaking cycles of poverty, cre
ating value, and solving commu
nity challenges.

will launch in January 2025 and
