December 2, 2024, The Islander, Page 9 Golden Isles Arts & Humanities Awarded 'Cultural Facilities' Grant Golden Isles Arts & Humanities has been awarded a Cultural Facili ties Grant from Georgia Council for the Arts (CGA), the Georgia Depart ment of Economic Development team specialized in supporting arts and cul ture, for fiscal year 2025. The Cultural Facilities Grant sup ports the acquisition, construction, restoration, or renovation of a build ing to be used for arts programming. Golden Isles Arts & Humanities will use these funds to help with the cost of replacing the Ritz Theatre audito rium’s outdated HVAC system. As part of this year’s Cultural Fa cilities Grant awards, 24 entities in 18 counties will receive $1.2 million in funding. “We are so grateful to the Georgia Council for the Arts for this much needed assistance in replacing the 23 year old HVAC system,” said Heather Heath, Executive Director of Golden Isles Arts & Humanities. “The Ritz Theatre has some funds allocated from the current SPLOST, but with the assistance of the GCA grant, we will be able to make the dollars go far ther and take on more projects in this wonderful and very busy facility in the downtown Brunswick. “Golden Isles Arts & Humanities has received funding over the years from GCA for a variety of programs including the Golden Isles Penguin Project and we are grateful for their assistance in helping us grow the arts in our community.” “Georgia Council for the Arts is pleased to provide this support to our nonprofit arts organizations, which ensures they can continue to foster economic and cultural vitality,” said CGA Executive Director Tina Lilly. CGA received applications from arts organizations from across the state, including performing arts cen ters, museums, galleries, amphithe aters, and arts classroom spaces. Cul tural Facilities Grants are available to arts organizations for repairing, pre serving, or acquiring an arts facility, or for purchasing equipment. Funding for these grants is provid ed through appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly and the American Rescue Plan (ARP). GCA uses Peer Review Panels to judge and review applications follow ing standard practices set by the Na tional Endowment for the Arts. Pan elists are GCA Council members and fellow professionals who are experi enced in the arts discipline or type of grant being reviewed, or are citizens with a record of arts activities, experi ence, and knowledge.
