His proven track record as public works director, im proving government efficiency, and serving with integrity, made him the clear choice. We are excited to welcome him to this new position and we look forward to benefiting from his vision and leadership.” In addition, County Manager Bill Fallon expressed his confi dence in Smith’s appointment, stating, “We are fortunate to have had several qualified internal can didates that were considered for this position. Danny’s experience, education, accountability and nu merous certifications in the areas of responsibility for this position made him the right choice for this selection.” BOC vice chairman Wayne Neal (Dist. 3) agreed, saying, “We are very grateful for the timing of this. It’s been a pleasure having him to work for the county.” Adding, “You’ve got some big shoes to fill.” Commissioner Allen Booker (Dist. 5) jokingly said, “You should have no problem filling the shoes of the General.” As Assistant County Manager, Smith will support the County Manager in overseeing daily opera tions across multiple departments, including Public Works, Planning & Code Enforcement, Building In spections, Recreation & Parks, and Engineering. He will also play a key role in the oversight of all SPLOST & capital projects, executing Glynn County’s Strategic Plan, and man aging storm events. Smith holds a Bachelor of Sci ence degree from the University of Florida and is widely respected for his collaborative leadership style, dedication to public service and performance as Director of Public Works. Gentry’s last day with Glynn County is Friday, June 27, with Smith officially taking over the post on Sunday, June 29. Speaking to The Islander after his appointment, Smith said, “I’m still at public works but I’ll will be shadowing Mr. Gentry in the mean time.
