Profiteering
Probably the inhabitants of this
nation have suffered more from
profiteering than any other people
on the globe. x
Legislative regulations seem too
weak to withstand conditions; and
yet, if it is right to enforce laws
against stealing, it is right to en
force them against profiteering.
The people are to blame! We
need a little more of the blood ol
our forefathers. V\ hen English
merchants asked too much for
their tea, the adopted sons of
America dumped the cargo of tea
in the Boston Harbor,«and refrain
ed from buying or drinking tea,
which at that time, was the nation
al beverage.
Just so long ae the Americans
gladly and willingly give exhorbi
taut prices for merchandise, just
so long will profiteers enlarge their
» bank accounts, and the poorer
classes wifi suffer almost, yes, even
beyond human endurance.
Large Regiments
Washington, May 11. Smiths
made up 15 regiments in the Amer
ican war army, Johnsons made up
11 more, Browns 8, and Williams,
Jones and Millers made up more
than 7 each.
Records at the bureau of War
Risk Insurance, where the names of
4,622,422 former service men aie
indexed, also show that the Ander
son and Davis families were rep
resented in sufficient number to
compose more than five regiments
each, and tqe Wilsons, Moores and
Taylors, 4 each.
