SGA hdlts evaluation The SGA Senate voted Mon day, May 11, to temporarily discontinue the Faculty Evalu ation program. The chairman of the committee on Faculty Evaluation, Jim Camp, asked the senate to take action either to continue and support the evaluation or to authorize him to halt work on the project ’"' Senator Wayne Gullatt moved that the Senate re evaluate the Faculty Evalua tion and discontinue work on the Winter Quarter tabulation. As a result of the adoption of this motion, the Winter Quar ter evaluation will not be finished and there will be no evaluation for Spring Quarter. Camp explained that the SGA had never officially en dorsed the Faculty Evaluation, but that it had appointed chair men to the committee estab lished to work with the pro ject. The suggestions of a Fa- cutly Evaluation for Mercer came originally from Waverty Conference. Former chairman Steve Carraker resigned in the Middle of Spring Quarter and at that time, no tabulation had been done. 4 Camp said that the evalua tion in Its present form la not as effective as it could be. An ad hoc committee composed of faculty and students has been formed to reassess the evalua tion form and obtain infor mation from other universities which have similar programs. Several faculty members have expressed the opinion that Faculty Evaluation would be most beneficial if conducted once a year during Fall Quar ter. The move to discontinue the service for Winter and Spring Quarter was viewed by the SGA as the best action to take under existing circum stances. Camp said, “It’s better to cancel the evaluation for this quarter than to turn in a half done job and possibly give the students a bad Image."
