ROTARY CLUB BUILDS ITS 971 ST RAMP FOR ALICE TURNER Submitted photo The Madison County Rotary Club Ramp Crew constructed a 16-ft handicap ramp on Thurs day, Feb. 6, on Wesley Chapel Road in Oglethorpe County. According to Rotary leaders, Alice Turner and her husband, Robert, are lifelong residents of the area where they established a family. They have two attentive children, Steve and Maeaice, who live close by and provide welcome support. Alice retired from the Georgia Department of Family and Children Ser vice after a career of more than 25 years. Robert has also retired and worked many years as a heavy equipment operator in construction. Unfortunately, Alice is now beset by multiple medical challenges. She is unsteady on her feet and often must use a walker and suffers from kidney disease requiring dialysis. Thanks to the Rotary Club, she now has a safe and sturdy access ramp. She and Robert are pictured first stepping on to their new ramp along with the Rotarians and volunteers who made the ramp possible: Don Sullinger, John Taylor, Johnny Minish, Alan Phillips, Ed Brown, Walton Hill, Gerry Carroll, Artry Bishop, Roy Nunnal ly and Bruce Gandy. The Northern Judicial Circuit Juvenile Court announces that it is con tinuing the tradition of its judge, Hon. Warren C. Caswell, in sponsoring a Law Day essay contest for local area students. This year is the twentieth consecutive year of the contest. This year’s topic centers on the 2025 Law Day theme: The Consti tution’s Promise: Out of Many, One.. The theme is borne from one of the United States’ most en during mottos: E Pluribus Unum. Specifically, this year students are asked: Does the representative government as estab lished by our Constitu tion ensure that the voices of our entire citizenry are heard and respected? Dis cuss both the strengths and weaknesses of our current system. The theme for Law Day in 2025 is “The Constitution’s Promise: Out of Many, One”. The longest enduring motto of the United States is E Pluribus Unum; Latin for “from many, one”. It originates from the co alescing of many states into one, greater, nation. It also extends to the peoples of those states, and the peoples of to day- that though we are many different peoples from different places and backgrounds we are greater when we coalesce into one voice. This year we are asking students to evaluate our government on the delivery of its promise- to make each of us greater by transform ing our individual voices into a resonating anthem. Students can enter by writing a persuasive essay advocating their chosen view. First Prize is a $350 cash schol arship. All high school aged students residing in Elbert, Franklin, Hart, Madison and Oglethor pe Counties are eligible as well as any similarly aged student currently in the care of the Northern Circuit Juvenile Court, regardless of where they are placed. Entries must be postmarked by April 15 and winners will be announced on Law Day, May 1. Full details, contest rules, and back ground information are available on the internet at www.warrencaswell- law.com Law Day was first pro claimed by President Ei senhower in 1958 and is a day of national dedi cation to the principle of government under law. Each year the American Bar Association, and a multitude of state and lo cal bar associations, hold events and celebrations honoring law day to edu cate the public about the role of law in our society. The Annual Law Day Essay Contest is designed to encourage young peo ple to think about the role of law in society and how law affects their every day lives, even at a young age. Local Juvenile Court Judge Warren Caswell has sponsored the contest each year since opening his practice in Madison County. According to Judge Caswell, “critical thinking and the ability to advocate a controversial position in writing are paramount for success in today’s world; this con test will provide students an opportunity to practice these crucial skills while reflecting how our laws meet, or fall short, of their own expectations.” PUBLIC MEETINGS ...
