Lady Raiders tennis
team continues to dominate
Rough patch
for boys team
The Racquet Raiders had a full
slate of competition this week
with matches against Clarke Cen
tral, East Forsyth and Eastside.
The Lady Raiders pulled out
three victories this week. Against
Clarke Central and Eastside, it
was a 5-0 sweep across the board
by Lexie Gillespie, Cora Harden,
Sydney Ledford, Katie Dixon,
Ava Harden, June Hargrove and
Kylee Treadway.
On Tuesday night, there was
a tight region battle against East
Forsyth. Leading the charge was
a big win from Lexie Gillespie at
first singles. Kylee Treadway and
June Hargrove fought hard in a
three-setter to pull out the victory.
Cora Hargrove overcame losing
the first set and battled hard to
win in a three-set thriller.
“I was very proud of how hard
the whole team fought for their
victories,” said Head Coach Mat
thew Brannon.
The JV team also had oppor
tunities to play against Clarke
Central and East Forsyth. Dayle

against Clarke Central.
On the boys side, this was a
tough set of matches. Corbin
Stovall gained a hard fought vic
tory in three sets against Eastside
to be the lone win. Grayson Wil
loughby and Hayden Anglin also
fought hard, but fell short in three
sets.
The JV boys also got to com
pete against East Forsyth and
split their matches with victories
from Graylon LaBarbara, Noah
Speir and JD Kinsey.
“I was proud of the fights from
the boys on Varsity and JV,” said
Brannon.
Following matches against
Prince Avenue and Walnut Grove
on March 4 and 5, the teams will
face Winder-Barrow at home on
Thursday, March 6.

Team drops two
close games last week
The Madison County High
School Boys Soccer team
dropped a couple of close games
last week to fall to 1-4 on the
season.
Following their big 7-0 shutout
of Stephens County on Feb. 21,
the team lost a home game to 4-2
North Oconee 2-1 on Feb. 25.
The Raiders dropped a second
straight game on Feb. 28 against
5-1 Walnut Grove. The final
score was 3-1.
Despite the losses, the close
games give hope that the team
could turn things around soon.
Three of the team’s four losses
on the season have been by two
scores or less. All four of their
losses have also come against
teams that have winning records.
The team now goes into a string
of home games, beginning with
a clash with 3-4 Winder-Barrow
on March 4.
They will then face the 3-0
Flowery Branch Falcons on
March 7 and the 3-2 Jackson
County Panthers on March 11.
