THE MADISON COUNTY (GA) JOURNAL, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, 2025 - PAGE 7A Chamber continued from 1A about Georgia Grown Trail 98 to contact them. FLEX In 2024, the chamber also started its own Foundational Leadership and Entrepreneurship Experience (FLEX) program. This is an entrepreneurship pro gram for high school students that engages them in the business world through experiences and mentor ships. Students in FLEX create real businesses, provide real products and services and make real money. Local business partners, along with community leaders and teach ers invest in the program through teaching workshops and mentoring student entrepreneurs. Students compete in three rounds of competition until a local winner is selected. Local FLEX champs then move on to the state-wide com petition. Madison County was able to be come one of the first in the region to have its own FLEX program, thanks largely to a $15K donation from Georgia Power and a $5K donation from SunTrust. There are currently seven Madison County High School students partic ipating in the inaugural program. “Much like Georgia Grown Trail 98 was rooted in a Chamber com mittee, MADICO FLEX originated out of the Chamber’s Workforce Development and Education Com mittee when school system leader ship and local business and industry partners identified a need to foster student entrepreneurship in Madi son County,” chamber leaders said. “This initiative is gaining traction in our community thanks to the tireless capacity building efforts by Madison County High School and the Broad River College and Career Academy as they prepare high school students for the workforce.” Those who would like to engage as a mentor or program supporter are encouraged to contact the cham ber. AWARD WINNERS The chamber also distributed a number of awards at the annual din ner. Award recipients were: •2024 Ambassador of the Year: Tyler Mize •2024 Business Person of the Year: Lee Brown •2024 Community Champion: Jeff Strickland •2024 Chamber Volunteer of the Year: Stephanie Harvin •2024 Impact Business of the Year: MedLink Georgia • 2024 Small Business of the Year: Alpha Dawg Plumbing •2024 Non-Profit Organization of the Year: The Madison County Food Bank •2024 MADICO MADE Leader Award: Jessie Bohannon •2024 Lifetime Achievement Award: Al Stone Guests dine at the the recent chamber dinnner. 8 cent - Finalist named for Foothills superintendent The Foothills Regional High School Governing Board has named Dale Simpson the sole finalist for superinten dent, the board announced Feb. 21. Simpson has served as as sistant superintendent since 2022. During his tenure, he has worked to expand educa tional access, increase student engagement and build com munity partnerships that en hance learning opportunities. His leadership has contributed to a more than 37% increase in graduates, advanced leg islative advocacy efforts and launched workforce training programs in collaboration with local and state organiza tions. “Dr. Simpson’s leadership and unwavering commitment to strrdent success make him the ideal candidate for super intendent,” said Robbie Hook er, Clarke County School District superintendent and Foothills Governing Board chairman. “We are confident that under his direction, Foot- hills will thrive and continue expanding non-traditional learning opportunities to stir- dents across Georgia. His vi sion, experience, and passion for education will build on the strong foundation set by Dr. Gibney-Sherman, and we look forward to working with him in this new role.” Simpson began his educa tion career in 2011 as a high school business teacher in Fulton and Jackson counties before serving as an assistant principal at Jackson County High School. From 2016 to 2022, he held various leader ship roles in Barrow County, including assistant principal at Holsenbeck Elementary, Dale Simpson, the sole fi nalist for superintendent of Foothills. chief executive officer at Sims Academy of Innovation and Technology, and principal of Barrow Arts and Scienc es Academy. Before joining Foothills full-time in 2022, he worked as a part-time gradua- tion coach and director of data and accountability. Simpson holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from the University of Georgia. “I am thankfill to the Gov erning Board for this oppor tunity and look forward to working with our incredibly talented team to ensure that every student has the oppor tunity to graduate ready for their future, including those who need a different pathway toward graduation,” said Dr. Dale Simpson. State law requires a 14- day waiting period before the board can officially vote to hire Simpson. Pending ap proval on March 10, he will assume the role July 1, suc ceeding Sherrie Gibney-Sher man, who is retiring after nearly 50 year's in public ed ucation, including a decade as Foothills’ superintendent.
