The Madison County ten nis teams defended their home courts in a series of three home matches last week. The Raiders started off the homestand against Prince Ave nue on March 3. For the girls team, it was a close battle across the board, but the team ultimately pulled out a 3-2 win. Clinching the match was Lexie Gillespie at singles, Katie Dixon, Ava Harden, June Hargrove and Kylee Treadway at doubles. For the JV girls, Megan Scoville received a win at sin gles while Ava Willoughby and Jayden Treadway won at dou bles. “It was a great feeling for the girls to get a win against one of the teams that they lost to last year,” said Head Coach Matthew Brannon. The boys team lost in all lines, but Brannon said that he was “proud of the fight from the team.” Grayson Willoughby at singles and Tahzim Momin and Hayden Anglin at doubles put up an “incredible fight” to go three sets in their respective matches, according to Brannon. The JV boys matches were also compet itive, with JD Kinsey and Noah Speir gaining wins. The Raiders then played a re gion match against Walnut Grove on March 4. The boys gained a win after Walnut Grove forfeited two lines and Tahzim Momin and Adam Braswell won in straight sets. The girls swept for Varsity and JV. Receiving wins were Lexie Gillespie, Cora Harden, Sydney Ledford, Katie Dixon, Ava Hard en, June Hargrove, Kylee Tread- way, Lilly Conley, Dayle Walter, Megan Scoville, Gabriella Zeis- er, Brooklyn Higgins, Ava Wil loughby and Jayden Treadway. The Raiders finished the week strong by gaining wins for Var sity and JV against Winder-Bar row on March 6. The boys won 3-2 behind the work of Corbin Stovall, Adam Braswell, Graylon LaBarbera, Tahzim Momin and Hayden An glin. The Lady Raiders won 4-1 with wins from Lexie Gillespie, Cora Harden, Katie Dixon, Ava Harden, Kylee Treadway and June Hargrove. The boys and girls JV teams also both won 4-1. Troy Hanson, Aubrey Minish, Noah Speir, JD Kinsey, Robert Willis and Logan King won for the boys. Dayle Walter, Megan Scoville, Gabriel la Zeiser, Brooklyn Higgins, Ava Willoughby and Jayden Tread- way won for the girls. Following an away streak at Hart County on March 10, Flow ery Branch on March 11 and North Oconee on March 13, the Raiders will return home to take on Oconee County on March 17 and Jefferson on March 18.
