Funeral service: Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 11 a.m.
at the First Baptist Church of Locust, North Carolina,
with the Rev. Dr. Tommy Ross officiating.
Family to receive friends: Thursday, March 6, 2025,
from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. in the church sanctuary.
The burial will occur at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8,
2025, at the Talmo Baptist Church Cemetery in Talmo,
with Pastor Eric Shelton officiating. The family will re
ceive friends in Georgia from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. on
Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Talmo Baptist Church in
Talmo.

Coach Victor Stewart

HOSCHTON — It is with broken hearts and many
extraordinary memories that we announce the death
of a Jackson County icon, Coach Victor Stewart. He
died in the place he most loved, the farm where he was
raised in Hoschton.
Vic played on the storied
1964 State Championship
Basketball Team where
he earned the Most Valu
able Player of the State
Tournament Award. The
sport of basketball opened
scholarship opportunities
for him at Young Harris
and Huntington Colleges.
After his college playing
career ended, he returned
to Jackson County where
he coached basketball and
other sports.
He then moved from the coaching ranks into elemen
tary administration where he ended his career as prin
cipal of North Jackson Elementary School. He counted
those years as his most impactful as he poured into the
lives of those children and families.
His retirement was spent doing the things he loved,
golf, fishing, hunting and building an expansive com
munity of friends. He lived a full life on his terms.
Vic is preceded in death by his mother, Allie Hill
Stewart; and cousin (brother) Jimmy Hill.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Steve and
Angie Stewart; the loves of his life — granddaughters,
Madison Hope Stewart and Alexis Faith Stewart; cous
ins (sister-in-law), Ann Hill and children; (brother),
Ronnie Hill and (brother and sister-in-law), Doyle and
Pam Hill and children; and lastly, a host of families im
pacted by his leadership, generosity and work.
There will be a celebration of his life on Thursday,
March 13, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Historic Braselton
Gym.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be
made to Jackson County Basketball.

Earle Richard Stout Sr.
JEFFERSON — Earle Richard Stout Sr., 87, Jeffer
son, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025.
Mr. Stout was born in
Beaver, Pennsylvania, a
son to the late Robert Clar
ence Stout and the late
Geneva Mae Oppelt Stout.
After service in the U.S.
Army, Mr. Stout earned
his bachelor’s degree
from Geneva College and
was retired from Amoco
Chemicals where he was
in sales.
Mr. Stout was a mem
ber of the Jefferson First
United Methodist Church and was a member of the St.
James Masonic Lodge #457 in Beaver, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Stout enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and
working in his yard as well as woodworking and UGA
football.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stout was preceded in
death by two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife Doris Ann Stout, Jefferson;
children, Barbara Stout Hingst, Atlanta, Cathy Stout,
Cumming, Kim Stout, Athens, and Rick Stout and his
wife Nikki, Atlanta; sister, Eleanor Courtney, Marco Is
land, Florida; grandchildren, Chase Trest, Griffin Trest,
Brody Hingst, Brienne Hingst, Carson Stout and Pres
ton Stout; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also
survive.
A family graveside service will be held on Saturday,
March 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the Evergreen Memorial
Park in Athens, with the Reverend Johnny Ray offici
ating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
American Legion Charities, the VFW or any Veterans
charity of your choice.

Steve Umberhant
Steve Umberhant, 73, passed away on Friday, Feb
ruary 21, 2025.
He was born on Decem
ber 30, 1951, in Seneca,
Soutli Carolina, to John
Otis Umberhant Sr. and
Dorothy York Umber
hant, botli of whom have
preceded him in death.
Steve was also preceded
in deatli by his brother,
Danny Umberhant.
Steve dedicated a sig
nificant portion of his life
to his career at Bentley’s
Antique Auto, where his passion for antique cars was
displayed. Steve was also an avid fisherman, who
found great joy in spending quality time with his
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, instilling in
them love and appreciation for the outdoors and fam
ily traditions.
His military service witli the U.S. Army during the
Vietnam War, particularly his time spent in Germa
ny, was a source of pride for Steve. This experience
shaped his character and instilled in him values of
duty and honor, which he carried throughout his life.
Steve was of the Holiness faith, which illuminated
his existence witli a sense of purpose and community
engagement.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years,
Mary Alice Dodd Umberhant; his two sons, Shaun
Umberhant and Jonathan Umberhant; and his daugh
ter, Shannon Lackey, and her husband, Brian. He
cherished his role as a grandfather to Dylan Lackey,
Meagan Craig and her husband, Robert, and Kali
Long; and had the pleasure of being a great-grand
father to Brayleigh Shockley, Roman Craig, Ryland
Craig, Landry Pirkle and Maverly Craig. His brother,
the Rev. John Umberhant, and his sister-in-law, Joann
Umberhant; along witli numerous nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends, continue to hold him close in
their hearts.
Funeral service: Wednesday, Marell 5, 2025, at
2 p.m. at the Cornelia Congregational Holiness
Church, 362 Galloway Street, Cornelia. The Rev.
John Umberhant will officiate witli military honors
provided by the Grant Reeves Veteran’s Honor Guard.
Family to receive friends: Wednesday, Marell 5,
2025, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
