PAGE 8B - THE MADISON COUNTY (GA) JOURNAL, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2025 School MCHS JROTC to compete in national championships Members of Madison County High School’s Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (JROTC) will be competing in three diffefent national championships tins year. “As the school year comes to a close, our JROTC cadets have demonstrated unwaver ing commitment and dedication to taking our program to new heights,” said MCHS JROTC Instructor First Sergeant Francisco Ramey. “Building on the prestigious Honor Unit with Distinction (HUD) award earned during our ac creditation inspection, our cadets have achieved a remarkable trifecta of success.” Army JROTC National Aerial Drone Championships The MCHS JROTC’s Drone Team, led by Team Captain Hailey Folger, Co-Captain Drue Brown, Coding Engineer Zane Smith and Drone Operators Richard Tran and Simon Xiong, will compete at Fort Moore in Colum bus, on Marell 7-8. Army JROTC National Drill Champion ships The Drill Team, under the leadership of Senior Drill Commander Brandy Wood and Assistant Senior Drill Commander Benjamin Bracken, has earned a spot at the National Drill Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida, on May 2. Team members include Cadets Saory Lopez-Gomez, Jana Aisley, Yussan Thelusma, Angelina Pilgrim, Sherlyn Antonio-Denova, Destini Lester and Julisa Garcia-Martinez. Army National JROTC Leadership Aca demic Bowl Championships The MCHS JROTC’s Leadership and Aca demic Team will compete in Washington D.C. on June 20-24. Team members include Cadets Jorga Means, David Summers, Lukas LaDuke, Brenice Leonard, Alexis Williamson, Aisley Allen, Simon Xiong, Jeremiah Mitchell, Noah Mitchell, Riley Dunkerly and Caleb Nix. “Congratulations to our cadets on their out standing achievements,” Ramey said. A message of gratitude Ramey offered a message of gratitude for those who supported the JROTC this year. “We extend our sincerest appreciation to the Chamber of Commerce, district and build ing-level leaders, supportive community mem bers, chaperones, parents and volunteers for their unwavering support,” he said. “A spe cial thank you to Mark and Anne Lackey of HireSmart Cares for their generosity and com mitment to our program. Locals earn certificates and degrees from GSU More than 3,000 students earned cer tificates and degrees at the associate’s, bachelor’s and gradu ate levels from Geor gia State University at the end of the fall 2024 semester. Stu dents were recognized during commence ment in December.
