Ray graduates from Young Harris College Athens Academy announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian Athens Academy has announced that Joshua Xie is the Valedictori an and John Maxwell McKillip is the Saluta torian for the Class of 2025. They will graduate alongside their 82 class- mates on Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at the Clas sic Center. Joshua is the son of Crystal Zhu and Paul Xie of Bogart, and he has attended Athens Acad emy since fourth grade. A National Merit Final ist, Joshua is a member of the Cum Laude Soci ety, the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. He par ticipated on the Judi ciary Board of the Hon or Council throughout Upper School. He has played the violin in the orchestra since Lower School and is a mem ber of the ACAD Quar tet and the Tri-M Music Upper School Director Susan Zalac, Joshua Xie, John Max- well McKillip and Head of School John Thorsen. Honor Society. Joshua is a member of the Ath ens Academy Model UN team and received the Honorable Delegate Award at the UGA Model UN conference in Febru ary. He will be attending Georgia Tech, where he plans to study computer science. An Athens Academy student since Preschool, John Maxwell is the son of Mary and Doug McKillip of Athens. He is a member of the Cum Laude Society and the National Honor Soci ety and served as editor of the yearbook for two years. During the sum mers, John Maxwell interned with the Un der Armour Association basketball league and volunteered at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospi tal. This fall he will be attending Georgia Tech, where he plans to study civil engineering. John Ray of Daniels ville, who received his BS, was one of close to 200 students who graduat ed from Young Harris Col lege on Saturday, May 17. “I want to welcome everyone to Commence ment, a time to celebrate and recognize the hard work of all these gradu ates,” said Dr. John Wells, Young Harris College president. “And I congrat ¬ ulate all of you, both the students, the parents, and faculty that have taken part in this historic point in their journey.” Commencement capped a week of activity, ranging from the annual Senior Reception to a Baccalau reate Service. The Com mencement ceremony was held in the Harp Recre ation and Commencement Center. “You graduates have made your mark on Young Harris College, just as the College has made its mark on you,” said Wells, as he closed the ceremony. “I charge you to remain intel lectually curious about the world, and, as you have held yourself to a standard of decency and honesty, this will prepare you to go out into a world in need of people with integrity.” Danielsville’s Chandler graduates from Berry College Berry College recently announced its newest class of graduates for 2025, which included Elizabeth Chandler of Danielsville, who earned a BAH & BS degree in Communication. The class of 2025, which consisted or approximately 550 undergraduate stu dents receiving their diplomas, was the largest in the college’s history. “Students who began their college journey in the fall of 2021 amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandem ic, showcase the resilience and spirit that Berry strives to foster,” Berry Col lege leaders said. “This year’s graduat ing class has achieved a wide range of accomplishments, with majors in areas such as animal science, exercise science, nursing, psychology, biology and com munication.” LEARN MORE Having peace of mind is living in a Right Choice™ Home.
