Power offers energy efficiency resources to beat the summer heat As summer officially begins, available programs and tips can lower energy bills Four Madison County residents face drug charges As temperatures and humidity again rise fol lowing recent rains, Geor gia Power has provided practical energy efficien cy tips and resources to help keep energy bills low. The official start of summer this week marks the perfect time for cus tomers to take advantage of tools and programs de signed to optimize energy usage and reduce costs. ENERGY EFFICIENCY TIPS Georgia Power offers the following energy-sav ing tips to help customers beat the heat: • Ensure proper airflow by changing air filters regularly and keeping vents clear of obstruc tions. • Turn off lights when not in use and close cur tains during peak sun hours to keep the heat out. • Seal around windows and doors with caulk and weather-stripping to pre vent air leaks. • Wash full loads of clothes in cold water and clean the lint trap before each use to increase dryer efficiency. • Replace incandes cent bulbs with ENER GY STAR-certified LED lights, which use up to 75% less energy. • Use large applianc es outside peak hours (2 p.m. to 7 p.m.) to maintain a cooler home environment. EASE PROGRAM For qualifying custom ers, the EASE Program provides free home up- grades such as LED light bulbs, heating and cool ing system servicing, at tic insulation and more. These improvements can significantly reduce en ergy consumption and lower bills. Households with an income of 200% or less of the federal poverty guidelines (or a household of two earning less than around $42,000 annually) may quali fy. MY POWER USAGE TOOL AND THRESHOLD ALERTS The My Power Us age tool empowers most customers to track and manage their energy con sumption with hourly, daily and monthly mon itoring. Customers can view trends, download usage history and receive customized notifications to stay informed. The My Power Usage Threshold Alerts help customers stay within their energy budget by notifying them when they exceed their target usage, with both monthly and daily notifi cations available. LOCATE ASSISTANCE OPTIONS IN YOUR COMMUNITY Georgia Power offers a range of resources for those seeking assistance. Customers can visit GeorgiaPower.com/As- sistance to access a di rectory of local resources and organizations to help easily find the support needed based on location. Assistance may be for local help with utilities, food, shelter and more simply by entering a ZIP code. Additionally, the Income Qualified Portal at GeorgiaPower.com/IQ- Portal allows customers to create an account and explore programs they may qualify for based on income. ENERGY ASSISTANCE AND RATE OPTIONS Georgia Power contin ues to expand partner ships with community organizations to provide assistance with rent, util ities, food, shelter and more. Project Share, ad ministered by The Sal vation Army, matches customer contributions to support local communi ties. Crime By Sharon Hogan On Tuesday, June 24, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Task Force Unit served searcli warrants at two loca tions in the county regarding on-going investigations and four individuals were arrested on possession of methamphet amine and other charges. Those arrested include: Autumn Shea Allison, 26, and Brandon Jacob Shields, 24, botli of Adams Clarke Rd., Com merce; and Crystal Rose Snyder, 35, and Jon Brandon Gibbs , 39, botli of Edward Ln., Danielsville, charged witli possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes and possession of meth amphetamine witli intent to distribute. OTHER RECENT ARRESTS Other recent arrests on file at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office in clude: •Nickolas Kane Daves, 32, Parham Dudley Rd., Bowman, was charged witli criminal trespass - Family Vio lence Act (FVA) and failure to appear after he reportedly kicked in the door to the mother of his children’s home on Parham Dudley Rd., damaged the bath- room door and pinned her up against the wall. •Parker Dylan Epps, 23, Old Greens boro Rd., Watkinsville, probation viola tion. •James Avery Parson, 27, homeless, failure to appear. •Johnathan Courtland Pursley, 35, homeless, probation violation. •Triston Blake Seymour, 29, Adams Duncan Rd., Colbert, terroristic threats and acts. •Loretta Nicole Shields, 45, Adams Clarke Rd., Commerce, possession of methamphetamine witli intent to dis tribute. •John Daniel Wassell, 38, Gatewood Cir., Athens, theft by shoplifting. •Perry Wliitfield Wilson, 58, home less, two counts probation violation. •Tabitha A. The com plainant’s husband and kids were at the pool along with several other community members. A second incident involving the male grabbing another man and his child and throwing them in the pool and then grabbing the other man by the throat and holding him under water. •an abandoned vehicle blocking a lane of travel was towed from Sunset Dr. at Hwy. 98 East, Danielsville. •a female was transported to Piedmont Athens Region al Medical Center for men tal health evaluation from a home on West 2nd St., Col bert. •theft by taking was re ported on Noah’s Way, Col bert, where a man reported his truck had been stolen from his driveway.
