A number of citizens have expressed their intent to at tend the meeting and express their concerns about the re cent actions of the Daniels ville Police Department and members of the city govern ment, following the circu lation of body cam footage online showing Police Chief Cleve Williams shooting and killing a dog while issu ing an ordinance violation. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the government complex located at 91 Al bany Ave., Danielsville. At tendees will need to enter through the back door of the building. By Caleb Rollins caleb@mainstreetnews.com A group of concerned citizens from the county’s Shiloh community, locat ed on the northern ends of Danielsville and Ila, made their opinions known about a rezoning request for a new Dollar General location at the Madison County Board of Commissioners (BOC) meeting on Monday night. The board ultimately voted to deny the request. The proposed store lo cation, if approved, would have included a 10,640 square-foot building, along with 43 parking spaces, on a 3-acre tract along High way 29 in Danielsville, across from the junction with Wildcat Bridge Road. DEVELOPER REMARKS Developer Jason Fritz spoke on behalf of the re quest. He stated that the store, while not a Dollar General Market, was a “new prototype” of Dollar General store that would provide fresh produce, meat and household items. According to Fritz, the developers felt the northern end of the county lacked grocery store options and believed the proposed store would provide that service to the community. “This would be really the only grocery store within a six-mile radius or so of that area,” he said. “We felt it would be a great addition to the community.” He also said the store would provide roughly IQ- 12 jobs and a new tax base to the community. COMMUNITY MEMBERS SPEAK While nobody came for ward to speak in favor of the rezoning request, over a dozen citizens were present See BOC, page 3A Freedom rings across Madison County Independence Day parade winds through Colbert Fireworks sparkle over Ila igu |a 009Ey Photos by Michael Lafountain A motorcyclist (above) hands out candy to parade-goers at Colbert’s Independence Day Pa rade last Thursday.
