The league’s season takes place from August to October with Monday night games at Sammy Haggard Park. Registra tion is open to anyone age 16 or older. Team fees will be $375. To learn more or register, visit www. madcorec.com/home/adult-sports/kickball For more information, contact jjack- son@madisonco.us Movers & Makers camp taking place July 14-18 Comer’s Movers and Makers camp will be taking place July 14-18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp is currently accepting campers from grades 3-8. “Join us for games, crafts and commu nity building while learning about the cul tures and communities of Comer,” camp leaders said. “Each day campers will learn about artists, athletes and activists who through physical or social movements helped to make the world a more beautiful place.” Suggested cost for a camper to attend is $50 to $200, but guests are asked to “pay what you can,” according to camp leaders. Registration includes lunch, field trips and a t-shirt. Camp will be held at the Comer Com munity Center located at 2180 Spring Cir cle, Comer. Oglethorpe County Library hosting ‘Lunch & Learn’ on July 21 The Oglethorpe County Library will host a “Lunch and Learn” event on Monday, July 21, from noon to 1 p.m., at the library located at 858 Athens Rd., Lexington. Steve Hilliard and Amy Edwards will present a travelogue of their trips abroad and across the USA. “Join us for their ad vice on planning trips, travel tips and pho tos from their travels,” library leaders said. Rec. dept, hosting Summer Dance Camp July 21-25 The Madison County Recreation Depart ment will be hosting the “Under the Sea- SD” dance camp on July 21-25 from 5:15 to 6:25 p.m. This camp will accommodate ages 3-5 for $65 and ages 6-12 for $55. MART will distribute school supplies and backpacks to Madison County Pre-K through 12th grade students who need them. There will also be a hot dog dinner and resource fair. The Comer Community Market offers honey from two different farms. The market is celebrating local bee apiaries, also known as bee yards, by highlight ing one of its honey ven dors. BeeHaven Bees is lo cated in northern Madi son County. Operating for over 15 years, their bees harvest from wildflowers and trees on wooded land surrounding the farm. In addition to honey produc tion, BeeHaven makes seasonal 100% beeswax molded candles in a vari ety of shapes and sizes. “Stop by the market on Saturday mornings for this local honey,” market lead ers said. COMER COMMUNITY MARKET The Comer Communi ty Market in conjunction with The Perch is open April through October on Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to noon. The market is also accepting SNAP this sea son, which is made possi ble through a MarketLink grant and partnership with Wholesome Wave GA. “Make our town your town and make our mar ket your market,” market leaders said. “Visit Comer and grow with us.” The market is currently looking for more vendors. Pet show continued from 1A victory by shaking hands with Willow. The second annual Comer pet show featured more than a dozen repre sentatives from the ani mal kingdom, applauded by a lively audience of about 60 market-goers. The show included a pair of hairless cats and a ball python named Woody, a tadpole in a jar and a blue macaw parrot that likes the music of Billy Joel. Four of the five kinds of vertebrates made an appearance in the pet show, with only fish missing a represen tative. As it happens, every one of the entrants in the pet show received a prize. Eli, a petite dog from Thailand, won the Most Traveled Award. Ange la, a deaf white cat who meowed passionately into the microphone, won Best Soprano. And Woody, the ball python, won Best Tree Hugger. At the judges table on Saturday were Ker ry Godfrey of the Naked Farmer in Comer, Mar shall Heard of Cypress Grove Farms in Daniels ville and Anna Strickland, representing the Comer Veterinary Hospital. Several local business es donated prizes and gift cards for the pet show, including Comer Coffee Co., Comer Veterinary Hospital, the Comerian bakery, the City of Com er, Community Yoga with Laura, Southern Drawl restaurant and Southern Hardware.
