THE MADISON COUNTY (GA) JOURNAL, WEDNESDAY, JULY 9, 2025 - PAGE 9A Obituaries William James Adams William James Adams, 91, passed away peace fully at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Cen ter on Thursday, June 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born the oldest son of six children on April 16, 1934, to Wil liam Buford Adams and Susie Nell Crow Adams in Comer. James was known for his unwavering servi tude to all in need. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, serving his na tion in the Korean Con flict, aboard the USS Frank Knox. In his civilian life, his service continued as a ded icated Rotarian. He was active in Rotary as long as he was able, most notably building ramps for indi viduals in Madison County who developed a need. James was strong in his Christian faith and loved showing the love of the Lord through serving his church family as well. He was a deacon at Union Baptist Church for many years, taught Sunday School and he cared for the widows of the commu nity. Until his death, he was an active member at Friendship Baptist Church. While most of his time was dedicated to serving others, James also was active in many hobbies. He loved the outdoors where he would fish, hunt and spend time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren. Upon retirement, James and Bobbie Jean trav eled far and wide in their camper and then on many bus tours with friends. His time outdoors was also dedicated to tending his large garden. He shared his garden as he shared his life, feeding friends, family and all those in need. Remarkably, later in life James still had time for his own competitive hobby. He was a highly dec orated archer and competed in the Golden Olym pics until he was 89 years old. His dedication to his family, life and faith did not dwindle as he aged, and he will be remembered for his devotion by all those who loved him. Left to cherish the memories they made together are his adoring wife of 67 years, Bobbie Jean Gun nells Adams; his sons, Steve Adams, Rome, and Greg Adams (Patsy), Hull; his daughters, Jan Wil liams (Randy), Hull, and Sandra Seymour (Jeff), Comer; grandchildren, Robbie Adams (Kalea), Chris Adams (Nicole), Ashley Witcher (Beau), Zack Seymour (Autumn), Caleb Seymour, Tyler Adams (Kelsi Schell), Trey Adams (Kathleen), and Amber Williams (Jamie); and one great-grand son, Finn James. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him. Funeral service: Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 4 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, Danielsville, with Pastors Jeff Wells and Jeff Seymour officiatins. Week of July 7-13 Shirley Ann Alcorn BETHLEHEM — Shirley Ann Alcorn, 87, Beth lehem, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025. She was born on February 6, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky. Shirley was a telephone operator and Frame Dame for Southern Bell. She has been mar ried to the love of her life, Thomas, for 70 Years. Shirley was a member of Bethlehem First United Methodist Church. She was a lay speaker for Unit ed Methodist Churches where she preached all over Georgia. Shirley volunteered with countless organiza tions and ran a shelter in Florida for abused and abandoned children. Shirley was a member of the D.A.R. Shirley was the matriarch of the family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is predeceased by her father, Thomas L. Wells; mother, Maja Tomes Bush; step-father, James Ralph Bush; and sisters, Dorothy Greco (Dr. John) and Betty Edgar (Ronald). Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Thom as Lee Alcorn; son, Thomas Lee Alcorn Jr.; daugh ters, Diane Shelton (Charles), Denise Matty (Den nis), Pixie Cook (Vernon) and Charlotte Wright; brother, James Robert Bush; sister, Doris Hilliard; and lots of loving grandchildren and great-grand children. Mr. Borders was born in Gadsden, Alabama, the son of the late Olin Roscoe Borders and the late Gussie Lou Segars Borders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Frances Borders; daughter, Judy E. Richardson; grand son, Kramer Borders; granddaughter, Candice Borders; and a sister, Carol B. Dillard. Mr. Borders worked for C.C. Dickson Compa ny as a HVAC parts supplier. He was a member of Crosspointe Church, Duluth, loved to build bird- houses and be in his garden. Week of July 7-13 Donald House Dunahoo Donald House Dunahoo, 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He was born on April 25, 1948, in Athens to Horace and Mazie Dunahoo. Donald was a former president of the Lions Club and loved playing golf. He was a land surveyor in Bar- row County for 55-plus years where he had the joy of working with his brother, son and grand son. He is predeceased by his parents, Horace and Mazie Dunahoo; and sisters, Marie Smith and Jer- rye Purcell. Donald is survived by his son, Daniel Dunahoo (Amanda); brothers, Ray Dunahoo and W.T. Week of July 7-13 Donald “Don” Knudsen Donald “Don” Knudsen, a U.S. Army Veteran, 83, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025, sur rounded by the love of his family. Born March 28, 1942, in Weymouth, Mas sachusetts, to Regi nald and Ruth (Gould) Knudsen with time in New Hampshire, Geor gia and eventually Flor ida. Don is survived by his wife, Becky; his daugh ters, Kelly, Karen, Ingrid, Lori, Shelley and Nikki; many cherished grandchildren and great-grand children; his sisters, Betsy, Sue and Marge; broth er, Doug; and many nieces and nephews. Don held many roles, but most loved working for the Water District in Massachusetts and with heavy equipment. His dedication and strong work ethic were evident in everything he did. Don’s hobbies included wood turning, bowling, golfing and playing pool. But above all, his greatest joy came from being a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He shared 45 loving years with his soul mate, Becky. Grace graduated as valedictorian from Townville High School and subsequently es tablished herself as a dedicated homemaker and respected member of her community. She was a faithful and de vout member of Winder First United Methodist Church, where she lov ingly led the nursery for over 40 years. Through her gentle spirit and steadfast kindness, Grace impacted multiple gen erations, nurturing the children of her church fam ily and embodying the true meaning of grace and compassion. Grace was preceded in death by her beloved spouse of 67 years, Dr. Clyde P. Ragland Sr.; and daughter, Karen Ragland Munday; her parents, T.A. Whitworth Sr. and Lizzy Whitworth; and sib lings, Harold Whitworth, T.A. Whitworth Jr., Ever ett Whitworth and Margaret Schneider. She is survived by her sons, Dr. David E.
