William James Adams
William James Adams, 91, passed away peace
fully at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Cen
ter on Thursday, June 26, 2025, surrounded by his
loving family.
He was born the oldest
son of six children on
April 16, 1934, to Wil
liam Buford Adams and
Susie Nell Crow Adams
in Comer.
James was known for
his unwavering servi
tude to all in need. He
was a proud U.S. Navy
Veteran, serving his na
tion in the Korean Con
flict, aboard the USS
Frank Knox.
In his civilian life, his service continued as a ded
icated Rotarian. He was active in Rotary as long as
he was able, most notably building ramps for indi
viduals in Madison County who developed a need.
James was strong in his Christian faith and loved
showing the love of the Lord through serving his
church family as well. He was a deacon at Union
Baptist Church for many years, taught Sunday
School and he cared for the widows of the commu
nity. Until his death, he was an active member at
Friendship Baptist Church.
While most of his time was dedicated to serving
others, James also was active in many hobbies. He
loved the outdoors where he would fish, hunt and
spend time with his beloved family, especially his
grandchildren.
Upon retirement, James and Bobbie Jean trav
eled far and wide in their camper and then on many
bus tours with friends. His time outdoors was also
dedicated to tending his large garden. He shared
his garden as he shared his life, feeding friends,
family and all those in need.
Remarkably, later in life James still had time for
his own competitive hobby. He was a highly dec
orated archer and competed in the Golden Olym
pics until he was 89 years old. His dedication to his
family, life and faith did not dwindle as he aged,
and he will be remembered for his devotion by all
those who loved him.
Left to cherish the memories they made together
are his adoring wife of 67 years, Bobbie Jean Gun
nells Adams; his sons, Steve Adams, Rome, and
Greg Adams (Patsy), Hull; his daughters, Jan Wil
liams (Randy), Hull, and Sandra Seymour (Jeff),
