monthly meeting at the Coupcr Boat Club
room at eight o'clock.

Look out for Him. —There Is a cer
tain individual now going the rounds of
our c claiming to be a refugee from Cu
ba, where he states his property was taken,
and he run away by his opponents. From
the information in our possession, we feel
no hesitation in attributing to lnm the
honors of being a first-class fraud. But
we can assure him that he has struck the
wrong quarter to ply his vocation success
fully.
lie presented a petition for charity to
*ome young gentlemen at the Screven
House yesterday. They couldn't see it.
He has four letters, we are informed, in
his possession—one in French, one in Ger
man, one in Spanish, and the fourth In
English. lie selects his letter to suit the
n
nationality of the party of whom he seeks
charity. He has bit several of our citizens,
but was foolish enough to say to one of our
merchants one day that he was a Cuban,
and dropping in a day or two after he an
nounced himself as a* German, and showed
his German letter. lie hasn't much the
appearance of a poverty stricken individ
ual, as he is neatly dressed, and when we
saw him yesterday he was the tenant of a
fine overcoat, and sole proprietor of an
ivory-headed cane.
Poor fellow, hfl is not sharp enough to
play that gam** here. If be can't put up
a better job than that he bad better strike
out for some other section, where people
have had no experience in that line of
being victimized.
He if a stout built man, with black whis
kers, and is fool enough to beg charity in
a aice suit of clothes. Our people are al
ways ready to help the needy and unfortu
nate, but not to be victimized by a fraud.
Theatre.—The above place of amuse
ment will “take treat'’ until next Saturday
night, when Duprez and Benedict's min
strels will commence a four nights’ engage
menfc. They have a large company, and
we see by our exchanges that they are
drawing good houses, and their performance
highly spoken of.
