THEATRE.
The Chapman Sifters will give their
final performance for this season at our
Theatre to-night. “The Forty Thieves’
will be up for the occasion, followed by
an amusing Farce. The Burlesque of
“The Forty Thieves” is full of fun, good
humor, wit, fcc., ami all who wish to
enjoy a real hearty good laugh, Hbould
not fail to drop in*at the Theatre this
evening. We regret very much indeed
that the Chapmans have had such un
favorable weather to contend with during
their present engagement, and we trust
they will be more fortunate on their re
turn next season. See programme on
first page.
MRS. OATES.
Items are very dull indeed fora Christ
mas week. Lo< alt are as scarce as hen’s
teeth, but with all these misfortunes to
bear, our citizens cannot “refuse to be
comforted" when we casually remind
them that “Savannah’s Little Favorite,’
Mrs. Jas. A. Oates, will be the stellar at
traction at our Theatre next week. Yes }
we know that our theatre goers will ex
tend a hearty welcome to the “Sweet
Little Songstress.” She has never failed
to draw well in our city, for she seems
to possess the peculiar faculty for cater
ing to th<' larg? st, as well as the most re
fined and fashionable audiences, of whi< b
our city ean boast. Offenbach’s famous
Opera Bouffe, entitled the “Grand Duch
ess,’’ is up for the opening night, with
Mrs. Oates as the Duchess; and w e need
only add that she will be supported by
such material as Billy Crane, Charley
Drew and Harry Allen; also Miss Nellie
Larkclle and Aliss PaulineMerrett. Seats
can be secured for any night during the
week at Schreiner’s Music Store, without
extra charge.
PKETTYGOOD.
The following Equestrian-Comic-Opera
conumlrmu was handed us this morning,
and it’s too good and too true to lose:
Why are the ’people of Savannah like
horses ?
Answer —Because they arc fend of
“Oates.”
An Ohio clergyman makes report
that he once married a couple, and the
man said, “B * short! he short!” I said,
“Yes, I caii do it in three minutes.”
“That’s right," lie said. 1 saw that there
was some little dissatisfaction on the part
of the other ha’, f. I said, “You don’t
want to have it too short V” “No,” she
said: “a body don’t want to get herself
up so for nothing.”
Vicksburg offers a reward for the
recovery of an old lady, aged one hun
dred and eleven, w ho. ii is supposed, has
been kidnapped by some felonious
journalist from a rival city desirous to
secure her obituary for his own local
iuius.
