And now it seems .that Savannah is
certain to establish a canning facto
ry. It is an enterprise that has every
prosd|Hftf being a success and that
will if rightly, judiciously and
economically managed. A canning
factory might and ought to have been
started here many months ago, which
should now be among the industries
of our city. We wish the contem
w plated factory success. - ■
The residents on Huntingdon street
between Jefferson and Wert Broad.
wouM Avsniitsubt pass a series of reso
lutions of thanks to the Street and
Lane Committee, if they would dump
a few’ cart loads of dirt along there,
and thus prevent pools of water and
mud holes during the rain. Its almost
impossible for pedestrians to find foot
bold on Huntingdon street, just west
of Montgomery, when it rains any
sort of a shower.
—Tampa (Fla.) Tribune : Mr. I. N.
Harn, of Savannah, Ga., has recent
ly purchased the Burgess place, on
Nebraska avenue, and will, we under
stand, at once proceed to erect upon
it a handsome residence and other
wise improve the property.
We send a number of copies of our
paper this week to persons who are
not subscribers, in the hope that they
may “take a liking’’ to it and send us
60 cents and get a premium ticket.
We are glad to hear that our friend
and patron, Mr. George Jones, is
building up quite a nice and lucrative
trade at his green grocery, cor. Lib
erty and Wbitaker streets.
A resident on Hall street,' near
Drayton, has his young trees in front
of his handsome residence enclosed
with large rustic boxes, made of ce
dar.
This paper does’nt puff or advertise
theatre companies or shows of that
ilk, it has a higher mission to perform
in this community that is so burden
ed with vice and wrong.
