Cotton. There has been but little movement
in this article during the past ten days. A good
many buyers ar e in the market, but no cotton is
offering. We have heard of one sale of 100
bales Middling Cotton at 40 cents—the only one
of importance which has come to our knowledge.
Bacon.—Sales have been made at 22c for hog
round, Shoulders 20c., Hams 25c. Retail price
about 25c per pound. Market closed dull.
Lard. — ln good demandat 30 to 33c at whole
sale ; 40c at retail.
Flour— ln good supply, and we quote Super
fine at sl3 to sl4; Family sl6; Extra Family
sl6 to sl7.
Corn.— Prices tending downward; supply
good; wholesale $1.25; retail $1.60 per bushel.
Corn Meal. —Retailing at $1.50 1.75 per
bushel.
Sugar. — ln moderate supply. We quote B
and C Sugars at 24 to 26c ; Crushed and Pow
dered k 7 to 30c.
Syrup.— We quote Sorghum at 50c; Cane at
76c to $1.25 in small quantities.
Coffee. — Puo is in good supply, and we quote
36 to 38c—retails at 45c., and Java at 65c.
Rice. —Scarce. Coast 20c; Country 12 to 15c.
Potatoes. —We quote Irish at wholesale
$1 .50 per bushel—at retail $3. Sweet Potatoes
in good demand at 76c, wholesale; $1 retail.
Fish.— We quote No. 1 Mackerel $4.50; No. 2,
$4.25. Codfish in moderate demandat 20cper
pound, in a small way. Herring $1.50 per box.
Demand light.
Candles. —We quote Adamantine at 32 to 34c
at wholesale ; 45 to 50c retail. In good supply.
Salt. — 2} to 3c, wholesale ; 3} to 4c, retail.
In fair supply.
Butter.— Limited supply; 50 to G2c, per lb.
Cheese. — Wholesale 30 "to 33c; retail 50 to
60c. In fair supply.
Miscellaneous. —Concentrated Potash s2l
per case ; Concentrated Lye, $18; Lump Potash
S2O, small packages, cask sl7. Soda, keg, $18;
in one pound papers, S2O. Palm Soap, $lB.
Shot, $0.50 a $7.00. Powder, keg, sl7 ; quar
ter keg, $5. Soda and Butter Biscuits, half
bbl., 20c per lb.; by the box, 25c. Pepper and
Spice. 46c per lb. Ginger, 60c., Oysters, 2 lb.
cans, $7.50 per dozen ; Oysters, in pound cans,
$4.75. Can Fruit, SB.OO per dozen. Pickles—
pints, $5 per dozen: quarts, $7.50; half gal
lons, $10.60. Starch, 16c. Nails, 4d to 10d,

Bagging and Rope.— We quote Gunny at
45c. Kentucky at 38 to 40c. Richardson’s
Green-Leaf Rope, 25c.
Tobacco. —Common 40 to 60c.; Medium 60 to
$1.25; Prime $1.50 to $1.75. Smoking 75 to
$1.25.
Financial. —But little doing in the money
market. We quote Gold 45 to 48 premium.—
Silver 35 to 45 premium.
CINCINNATI MARKET.
Cincinnati, Dec. 28. — Flour quiet and prices
unchanged Wheat, quiet—oldredsl 95 @ $2,
new red $1 60 @ 1 75. Corn active at full
rates—mixed 50c in ear, 56 @ 60c shelled.—
Oats dull and declined to 4Uc in elevator. Rye
quiet at 75c for prime.
Hogs active and prices higher. The idea of a
short crop is gaining ground. Sales of 7.000
head at sll 60 @ sll 75 net, holders asking
sl2 at the close. Receipts, 7 100 head.
Mess pork in good demand and prices have
advanced to $29 50 for city. None on market
at the close. Green meats active and prices ad
vanced to Os. 12} and 15} @ 16 for shoulders,
sides and hams. Bulk meats firm at 12} @ 15}
for shoulders and sides. Lard in good demand
and prices advanced to 18} for prime city.
Cotton firm and prices advanced to 47c for
middling.
Groceries quiet.

NASHVILLE MARKET.
Nashville, Dec. 30, 1865.—Cotton, on ac
count of favorable advices from the East, and
the ready transportation of the river, is excited
and rising, being worth 41 @ 42c.
Money is not exceedingly plenty; indeed it is
working rather close.
SAVANNAH MARKET.
Cotton. —When we closed our last weekly re
view of the cotton market, on the evening of the
22d Dec., holders were firm, and sales of mid
dling were made at 47 to 47} cents. During the
past week, as is usually the case at this season
of the year, very few sales of Upland Cotton
have been made. Quotations are to a great ex
tent unchanged. The demand for the past two
days has been very gottu, and all fair and even
lots have found purchasers at the following rates.
The quotations below are from actual sales
made, duty paid:
Ordinary - Nominal.
Low Middling - - - 44 @46
Middling - , - - - 47 @ 47}
Strict Middling - - - 48 @
Good Middling - - - 49 @
Most of the stock on hand is held at higher
prices. The receipts since the 22d ult., have
been as follows:. 4 557 bales of Upland, and 175
Sea Island. The exports during the same period
have been 3.028 bales of Upland, and 35 Sea
Island—leaving on hand and on shipboard, not
cleared, a stock of 11.600 bales of Upland, and
1.202 Sea Island. Although the rivers continue
in good condition, the receipts during the week
have not been as large as was anticipated.
New Orleans, Dec. 29.—Cotton steady, with
sales to-day of 2 200 bales Middling at 50 @ 63.
Gold 46.
Books Lost,
The subscriber has lost three boxes of
books, belonging to his private library. The
loss occurred in May or June, somewhere
between his office in Augusta and Macon.
■Whether taken from the cars in Augusta, or
in transitu, or after the cars reached Macon,
it is now impossible to ascertain. The loss
was not knjwn till the boxes on hand were
recently opened. Hence the delay in ad
vertising The Books were generally Stan
dard Library works —Appleton’s Cyclopedia,
Richardson’s Quarto Dictionary, 2 volumes
Iconographic Encyclopedia, several large
Dictionaries and Cyclopedias, Rawlinson’s
Herodotus, and several other large and val
uable works are among the missing. But
few of them had th*e owner’s name in them.
A liberal reward will he given for any in
formation respecting them.
