copper ore at the depth of 4o feet from the
the surface, which proves conclusively that
this previous mineral exists here in great
abundance. The property is upon the Wal
drop, lead, some mile and a half north-east
of the Drake Town Mines, (which have
been named in honor of Sir Francis Drake)
and of the same character of ore. and bids
fair to ho equally as rich. This makes the
third discovery of copper in the neighbor
hood and everybody, is on the tip-mo of
excitement: and 1 will venture to predict,
that at least three-fourths of those now en
gaged in the mining business will fail to
got the first trace ofeoppeer; hut should
every fourth individual who is in quest of
this valuable ore succeed, it would make
this one of the greatest mining regions in
the known world.

Mr. W. II. Salisbury, of Augusta, lias in
vented a plan of supplying railway cars
with a current of fresh air, free from smoke
and dust, and which is destined to add
greatly to the comfort of railway travelers.
The design of Mr. Salisbury is to furnish
this fresh supply of air by moans of a se
ries of tumbes, or pipes, which may he
made of tin, iron or zinc, and which are to
be placed on the ton of the cars, extending
the entire length of the train, and terminat
ing in front, with a funnel-shaped orifice,
which is placed in front of the smoke stack
0 fthe locomotive, and thus collects the air
free of the smoke and dust. The con
nection of this metal tubo between each car
is made by means of an elastic tube, made of
canvass or India rubber, having within them
wire springs and connected by couplings.—
From the metalic tube there descends a
branch into tint front of each ear, having iu
it a valve regulating the supply of air, and
through which the air passes into toe ear,
from which it is again transmitted, by means
of a similar branch placed in the rear of the
car, into the main tube again, and thence to
the next car, and so ou through the train.
Mr. Salisbury has made application for
n patent, and we have no doubt that this
ventilation will he generally adopted on our
railroads. At any rate wo are certain that
all who have experienced the inconvenience
of the smoke, cinders and dust, incidental
to railway traveling, will join with us in
wishing him success.—Ainjusta Constitu
tionalist.
