THE BARB - 12
Southeastern District MCC Meets In Atlanta
From Tampa, Nashville,
Columbia, Orlando, Jack
sonville, and Ft. Lauder
dale, members and dele
gates converged upon At
lanta the week-end of No
vember 9 & 10 for the
Semi-Annual Southeastern
Regional Conference of
Metropolitan Community
Churches.
The well-ordered busi
ness meeting was conduct
ed Saturday afternoon by
D i strict Co-ordinator,
Rev. Keith Davis, pastor
of Miami MCC. During
morning sessions and
workshops, issues were
discussed and recommen
dations formulated to be
passed along to the inter
national governing body of
the church, the Universal
Fellowship.
Of concern to this dis
trict is the MCC stand on
social and political action.
As a viable force in each
community, there is much
the church has done and
even more that it can pre
pare itself to do for the
dignity, respect and civil
rights of gay women and
men.
Another area of discus
sion was the Fellowship
concern with finding me
thods of non-sexist worship
in the traditionally male-
oriented Christian church.
Recommendations reflect
ed the desire of many men
and women both to see MCC
step out with intelligent
leadership in both of these
areas on the national level.
Hard working members
of the Atlanta MCC Social
Committee provided a de
licious chicken (poultry va
riety) dinner Saturday noon
... no mean task in a
kitchenless building! They
also arranged for special
showings of the movie “Je
sus Christ Superstar’ ’ both
Saturday and Sunday even

The Time I Had For Christmas
by Jose Gaye
What time I had for Christmas
with the children growing up,
was found between the nursery
and breakfast coffee cup;
was taken from those periods
when they were tucked away,
or pondered, for a moment,
on waking Christmas day.
The time I have for Christmas
needs no direction now -
I have it all around me.
With the children gone, somehow,
the time, once thought inadequate,
hangs heavy on my hands;
and the clock is an accomplice
with its lenient demands.
The time I thought essential
to make Christmas very dear,
I know now was beside me
In that lively atmosphere,
when I had no time^to squander -
I was much too busy living,
for Christmas was the children
ana each hour a gift for giving.
Cfabulous ,
Saturday night the 80 out-
of - towner s accompanied
by many of their Atlanta
hosts visited the bars and
generally enjoyed the
“sights of the city’’.
Jjunday’s schedule included
worship services at 10 a.m.
.and 2 p. m. Host pastor,
Rev. John Gill had offici
ated at an opening wors
hip service on Saturday
morning and requested that
two of the guest ministers
fpreach on Sunday; Rev.
Davis at 10 a.m. and Rev.
John H Hose at 2 p.m.
Rev. Hose, a founding fa
ther of MCC and an Elder
on the National Board has
recently accepted a call to
the Tampa, Florida pulpit.
“Pappa John’’ as he is
affectionately known thro
ughout the fellowship, was
wholeheartedly wecomed
to the Southeastern District
by all.
The Conference ended
Sunday afternoon on a high
note of warm fellowship
and with a good feeling of
accomplishment.
