Throughout the ages the
beauty of the human figure
has been celebrated by
painters, sculptors, and
artists of the world. From
rudimentary drawings etc
hed in prehistoric caves,
to the drawings and sculp -
hires of Michelangelo and
Rodin, to the contempor
ary painting of the Cruci
fixion by Salvador Dali
which depicts a sensual
and half-clothed Christ, to
the realistically cruel ca
mera-eye of the late Diane
Arbus, the male has been
interpreted in every art-
style* from the convention
al to the neo-impression
istic.
In the realm of art to
day a new talent has
emerged and his name is
Wayne Hampton. He is a
quiet, shy and unprepos
sessing man with
very impressive credent
ials. A Graduate in Fine
Arts from the University
of Iowa, he has worked at
the Art Students’ League
of New York, New York
University, the American
Art School, and the New
School. Mr. Hampton has
also studied intensively the
art techniques prominent
in South America and Eu
rope. In his attempt to
survive until the stature
of his work was recog
nized, he has helped
create animated film
characters, designed the
ater sets, and worked
long and arduous hours to
master the techniques of
charcoal, oil, watercolor,
mask-making, though his
first love has always been
sculpture, and it is in this
media that he has found
his ultimate expression.
His sculpted figures range
from impressions of fa
mous personalities todim-

shoulder pieces to a series

has seen his ALICE AND
THE DUCHESS knows that
a new and important art
ist has risen on the
American scene. His work
has been exhibited in many
cities throughout the Unit
ed States.
Less than a year ago
Mr. Hampton experimented
with ideas for nude male
figures, and in that time
has executed two excel
lent works glorifying the
beauty ot the male body.
His first piece JONATHAN
embodies the masculine
perfection of the male ani
mal, while his FRIENDS
encapsulates the essence
of the ephemeral combi
nation of innocene and lust
that only two young men
in love can offer each
other. Though these con
temporary masterpieces
are original renditions,
