Macon Hosts G.
For the first time this year,
Macon’s Gamma Alpha Yiota
Fraternity has expanded its
annual Gay Awards into a two-
night event. This will be the third
year GAY has presented the
awards, with ever-increasing
response from the gay community
in Macon and from throughout
the Southeast.
Last year the We Three
Lounge, where the affair is held,
was packed to the rafters, and
the number jof out-of-towners
attending prompted the
establishment of awards for
persons from Georgia, Florida
and the Carolihas.
It was because of this response
that the GAY’s decided to make
the Awards a two-night event this
year.
On Friday night, November 7,
the We Three will rock to a
special D.J. night and roar to a
first -class show that will feature
some of the best talent available
in the Southeast. Interspersed
throughout the evening will be
the announcements of
nominations for the twenty-odd
(!) Awards.
The final awards themselves
will be presented the following
night—Saturday, November 8.
The ceremony will be hosted
again this year by GAY President
Paul Ragan, and will also feature
top enfprtainmeht.
It promises to be a first-class
hoot.
Each year, the members of
Gamma Alpha Yiota vote on the
Awards at a dishy, secret meeting
just prior to the ceremonies, and
so far they have always managed
to keep their lips sealed (at least
as far as telling about the win
ners is concerned) until the time
of the presentations.
Macon will be the spot in the
South the weekend of November 7
and 8, and Charles Elkins of the
We Three and all the members of
Gamma Alpha Yiota extend a
warm invitation to gays
everywhere to join them. They
promise' plenty of Southern
Hospitality-Macon’s style, and
you don’t know what hospitality is
until you’ve been to Macon!
Admission at the door each
night will be $4.00, and an
advance ticket for both nights can
be purchased at the door
November 7 for $6.00. The best
deal, however, is to buy advance
tickets by mail before November 7
for only $5.00 which will admit
you to air the events both nights.
Mail your ticket request to
Charles Elkins, We Three
Lounge, 434, Cotton Avenue,
Macon, Georgia 31201, Charles
will also be glad to give you
directions to the We Three if
you’re a first-timer.
Boogie on over to Macon
November 1 and 8 — You owe it to
yourself!

GOVERNOR’S STUDY continued
from page!
In an exclusive telephone
biterview with The Barb, Mark
Segal expressed his surprise with
Tennessee Governor Ray
Blanton’s response. Governor
Blanton stated that “The state of
Tennessee does not consider the
question of sexual orientation in
screening employees. We hire,
fire and promote on the basis of
background, qualifications, skills
and job performance. In policy
making positions, we seek those
whose goals and objectives are in
harmony with those of this ad
ministration. We do not
discriminate on the basis of race,
sex, religion or any other in
dividual preference. Please be
assured of my commitment to the
guarantee of equal opportunity
for all.”
Not so surprising was Mark
Segal’s response from an aide to
San Francisco
Richard Elmon

Alabama’s George Wallace. In a
telephone conversation with
Segal the aide stated that there
were no homosexuals in
Alabama.
The only other southern
Governor responding to the
Raiders’ survey was Oklahoma’s
Governor Boren. Boren’s
Administrative Assistant William
E. Foster expressed Governor
Boren’s concern “over these
matters” but gave no other
specific statement oh the issue.,
Thirteen JJ. S. Governor’s have
responded to the survey at this
point. Each gave varying degrees
of supportive response from
Oregon’s “The state of Oregon
does not consider the question of
sexual orientation in the hiring of
state employees,” to j South
Dakota!s “Thank you for your
recent letter informing me of
recent developments designed to
protect the rights of gays. I
certainly will take these
developments into consideration
when this matter is reviewed here
in South Dakota.”
Significantly several states
indicated that while they had no
specific policy on homosexuals
they had had no complaints of job
