ROLEY Staff Writer Northrop Corporation will be moving its floor beam operations from Anaheim, Calif., to Perry, said company officials Monday. Northrop makes parts for Boeing airplanes, including many compo nents of an airplane's fuselage. The floor beams separate the cargo compartment from the passenger compartment in an airliner. Northrop spokesman Mike Graywitt said Monday that the move would add 40 employees to the Perry facility. He said the new positions would be offered first to the affected workers in California. Graywitt said that any positions that remained open would then be offered to laid-off employees at the Perry plant. Northrop recently completed laying off 58 employees at the Perry plant. "It's quiet a sweet deal," said Tim Martin, executive director of the Houston County Development Authority. "Not only is the product a good mix with what they produce there, but it brings additional em ployment "Northrop is very valuable to the local economy," continued Martin. "Anything that happens to Northrop that improves their viabil ity and profitability is good for the county." Graywitt said that he did not know how much the payroll of the Perry plant would increase because of the transfer of the floor beam op erations to Perry. The Perry plant was originally constructed to build the Tri-Service Standoff Attack Missile (TSSAM). Graywitt indicated that Northrop was still planning on constructing the missile in Perry. "(TSSAM) continues to receive support from both the military and Congressional leadership," said Graywitt. He added that the missile The Steak House Restaurant [ FRIDAY NIGHT J 5:30 -10:00 p.m. Seafood Buffet Q&0& Catfish"* *Crab Legs SIA 95 And More! + Tax [ SUNDAY BUFFET j 11 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. ' F°»r Meats 4* f QC • Four Vegetables * Salads • Breads A ■ „ •Dessert * Tea *** +Tax PROGRESS AVENUE • UAWKINSVILLE, GA • (012)892-3383 Wednesday, February 23,1994 Houston Times Journal - was funded in for both fiscal year 1994 and fiscal year 1995.
