Nelson B. Rivers, 111, will address the group. He is a native of South Carolina and regional director of the South-east Regional Office of the NAACP in Atlanta. The topics to be addressed are "Imagine America without the NAACP", and "Feed the Dog". Also on the program are the Saint James Connection, The Rising Sun tuid other gospel groups of Houston County. Britt Barrett attends meeting Special to the T-J Britt Barrett of Perry recently attended the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's (NRECA) annual meeting in Orlando, Fla. At the meeting, he attended the business sessions of NRECA and gained an insight as to how cooperatives join together throughout the country. Wednesday March 15,1995 1B SAFE KIDS Bike Safety program heads Perry Hospital schedule Bike safety heads this month's community education programs at Perry Hospital. The Houston County SAFE KIDS program is sponsoring the program March 23. Children attending the class will receive a bike helmet and a bike safety certificate. Cost is $lO. The class will be held at the Agriculture Building, 703 Carroll St., from 7-8 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Other community education programs planned by the hospital include: Heat Smart Breakfast for Men on March 21, 7:30-8:30 p.m. A special lunch and learn program designed for men to learn more about cholesterol and how it affects the heart. Cost is $5. Waist Makers on Thursday from March 16-May 24, 5:30-6:30 p.m. each week. This eight-week course is designed to help you lose weight. All participants will receive an individualized food plan and txxik to assist in weight loss. Pre registration is required. Cost is SBO. The group meets at the Perry Hospital dining room. Alzheimer's Support Group on March 16, 7-9 p.m. An opportunity to receive mutual support and exchange coping skills with others Poster contest winners named The importance of seat belt safety was the focus of a recent Seat Belt Safety Poster Contest at Perry Elementary. Traffic crashes are still the number one killer of children and young adults. In 1993, 1,047 Georgians died and 109,339 were injured in 242,093 vehicle crashes. Regular and correct safety belt use is the best protection in a vehicle crash. Sponsored by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service Occupant Safety Program for the sixth year, the contest is held statewide. Children were divided into two divisions (K,1,2) and (3,4,5). Students were asked to draw a picture best depicting the theme, "Why You Should Use Safety Belts.” Winners were chosen from each division. (K,1,2,) winners were Blair Brown, Heather Godbee, and Tina Taylor. Heather Godbee was the School Winner in her division. Winners in (3,4,5) were Randall Loggins, Shelby Ridley, Matt Knight, Dana Avera, Krista Babbitt, Mecia Oliver, Elizabeth Bullard, and Victoria Morath. Randall Loggins was the school winner in his division. The two school winners were sent to be judged along with other Houston County School winners at the county level. The first place winner in each division will progress to the statewide competition. The winning posters in each grade division at the statewide level will be reproduced and compiled in a calendar.
