RECYCLING Sarah Smeltplaces an item in the appropriate container as she
gets ready for Earth Day 1995.
Earth Day observance scheduled here
Earth Day 1995 will be observed
in Perry by the Clean Community
Commission, with the help from
the Optimist Club members and the
recycling attendant Robert Hill.
A home composting
demonstration will be held from 9
a.m. until noon Saturday at the
intersection of Houston Lake Road,
Cheryl Brown of Byron was
one of the handlers showing
dogs at the Cluster.
”1 have 10 dogs entered in the
shows," Brown said. She has 35
American Cocker Spaniels in her
kennel.
Brown said she was on die
road 40-45 weekends a year,
traveling all over the eastern
United States showing dogs.
"I've been to shows in
Virginia, New York, Kentucky,
Alabama, Florida, North and
South Carolina, Georgia and
Canada in the last year," Brown
said.
She travels mostly in the
South, showing her own dogs as
well as dogs owned by other
people.
"Heat and rain are the biggest
Swift Street and James Street near
Perry Middle School.
The Drop-Off Recycling Center
will be open to receive recyclables
for Happy Hour Workshop.
Newspapers, cardboard boxes, clear
glass, colored glass, food cans and
drink cans can be turned in. *
For the 25th anniversary of Earth
problems handlers face," Brown
said. "Several of the shows are
held outdoors. Not every place
has air-conditioned halls like the
Fairgrounds."
Brown said it costs her about
S2OO a weekend to travel to
shows.
"It's not really a business,
although diere are some handlers
who make a living at it," she
said.
A handler must have portable
kennel cages to transport the
dogs, grooming tables to get the
dogs looking their best and a
wide assortment of combs,
brushes, clippers, ribbons,
collars, leashes, food and
medications to care for the dogs.
"For most of us, it's a very
expensive hobby," Brown said.
Bay; the - Clean Community
Commission encourages home
composting to improve the earth
and recycling to save useful
materials from being buried in the
earth.
The Earth Day theme is "Energy
Efficiency" and the slogan is "The
Time Has Come."

Trees are one of Nature’s
most bountiful gifts. An endlessly
renewable resource that can
be grown and nurtured forever.
But healthy, productive forests
don’t just happen.
They’re created from sun, soil,
water, air Nature’s building
blocks of life aided by the
skills and dedication of
professional foresters.
At Weyerhaeuser, we grow
trees through a balanced, long
range program of thoughtful,
caring forestry.
It’s the best way we know to
keep up with the world’s growing
demand for wood, pulp and
paper products.
It’s also an important part of
forest conservation. Because
growing more wood faster in our
forests, on land devoted to tree
growth, frees other kinds of
forests for other uses. Including
just being left alone.
Useful products for today.
Green, growing forests for future
generations. And a wider range
of forestry choices for America.
’ That’s what Weyerhaeuser
Forestry helps make possible,
Every day.
