Church News I
church anniversary.
The anniversary marks 139 years
of ministering to the spiritual,
intellectual, physical and emotional
needs of all people.
Church families include
descendants of John Augustus King

original church in 1857 and the
descendants of slaves of King.
Our theme, "In Search of the
Vision - Insuring the Victory:
Christian Methodism Preparing for
the 21st Century" challenges us to
prepare ourselves for greater service
for the Lord Jesus Christ. Our
primary emphasis for 1994-1995 is
"Saving Our Families".

Easter gone, but
question remains
By DAVID L. CARTER
Crossroads U.M. Church
So another Easter has come and
gone. How time flies. The
chocolate bunnies have been eaten,
or melted in the spring sun. The
hidden eggs recovered; the fresh
new Easter frocks hung away in the
closet. Generally speaking, it was
Easter as usual no more, no less.
But think about that first Easter,
when the news was still circulating
throughout Jerusalem and being
carried by weary travelers across
Palestine.
“The Nazarene teacher was
crucified last Friday! But that’s not
the real scoop. The real news is,
they say He rose from the dead!
weekend. The youth will also be
sponsoring a bike-a-thon in the
weeks ahead. All proceeds will go
to the Pregnancy Care Center in
-F’erry.
During this month's business
meeting, the church approved their
pastor's participation in a doctoral
program at New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary.
Architects in Nashville, Tenn.,
are finalizing drawings for the new
building which is expected to
exceed 7,000 square feet. The
proposed building will contain new
classrooms, a kitchen, restrooms,
and fellowship area that will seat
200 people. Groundbreaking is
scheduled for September.

5:30 p.m. at the church. The class

Can you believe it?”
And you know what, that’s still
pretty much the heart of the Gospel
message, and the same question is
being asked of us all.
Paul said, “I remind you brothers
of the Gospel I preached to you ...
that Christ died for our sins, was
buried and was raised on the third
day according to the Scriptures.” (I
Cor. 15:1-4).
And the appropriate and
unavoidable question Easter still
poses before us all is, “Can you
believe it?”
(The Rev. Dr. David L. Carter is
pastor of Crossroads United
Methodist Church of Perry and
columnist for the month of April.)
