Local officials are preparing for
the opening of Riverwood
International at the Perry Allied
Business Park.
Riverwood officials expect to
occupy a 125,000-square foot build
ing under construction during
spring 1996. Ground breaking was
June 28.
Riverwood will employ more
than 100 persons at start up.
Employment could swell to more
than 300 during the next five years.
Tim Martin, executive director
of the Houston County
Development Authority, and Jim
Newton, Quick Start training coor
dinator for Middle Georgia
Technical Institute, have both visit
ed Riverwood plants in Clinton,
Miss., recently.
Additionally, Martin visited a
Riverwood plant at West Monroe,
La.
Both men gave favorable
impressions of their visits. Both
plants produce paperboard cartons
for beverages, Martin said.
The Perry plant will produce
printed paperboard cartons for the
beverage industry. The company
has announced plans to install the
latest available equipment at the
local plant.

attract potential park tenants.
Holmes Harrison, who handles
economic development issues for
Flint Electric Membership Corp.,
said that company would consider
helping with financing for the spec

HAG Steel, which occupies an
earlier speculative building at the
park, has told Martin they anticipate
expansion.
That firm is moving corporate
offices to the community from
Cincinnati, Ohio, Martin said.
Martin also told members of the
authority that Introsul Inc., another
park tenant, planned to add a second

In conjunction with development

The DOT is completing plans for
extending the Northwest Perry

road will provide better access to
