Youth camp at Houston
Lake Baptist is Aug. 14-15
The Houston Lake Baptist
Church Summer Youth Camp will
be held Aug. 14.-15.

“Christmas in August” is here
again. The first and second grade
G.A. and GAP. Warriors seek help
in collecting items to send to Baptist
centers in Alabama and Tennessee.
Items needed include: soap,
shampoo, notebook paper, crayons,
pencils, pens, construction paper,
glue, toothpaste and toothbrushes,
deodorant, hand lotion, men’s white
tube socks, and white XL T-shirts.

The next “’’Super Saturday” will
be Aug. 12, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at
the Houston Lake Baptist Church.
This will be a family night, parents
are welcome. There will be games,
pizza and soft drinks.
Peavy to be honored
at First Baptist
The children of Ruth Potts Peavy
will honor her with a reception in
celebration of her 80th birthday on
Aug. 12,2-4 p.m., in the Fellowship
Hall of the church. No gifts.

The Rev. Jerry Shedd, mission
pastor, arrives this week to prepare
for the launch of Cornerstone
Baptist Church. The month of
August will be a preparatory period
in launching this new church in cen
tral Houston County on Sept. 10.

and games for a neighborhood fel
lowship to be held Aug. 12. Place
items in the box in the atrium of
First Baptist Church by Aug. 11.
Items needed: four bases for
baseball; volleyball and portable
net; Frisbees, seven jump ropes
(children and youth), plyboard
clowns for tossing beanbags, bean
bags, poles and board for “Go
Fishing” game, set of horseshoes,
dish pan and three plastic ducks for
game.

The second annual Walk-a
thon/Fund-raiser for the Pregnancy
Care Center of Perry will be held at
Rozar Park on Sept. 16. Registration
begins at 8:30 a.m.; walk begins at

includes: prizes, clowns, face paint
ing and lots of fun. Steps for Life
‘95 T-shirts will be presented to
those who raise SIOO or more in
pledges.

be held Aug. 26, 9 a.m.-noon, at
Warner Robins First Baptist Church,
1135 Watson Blvd., and on Sept. 23,
9 a.m.-noon, at Chamlee Memorial

This year’s Christmas in August
project will focus on the Hope
Migrant Mission Center in Hope,
Ark. More than 25,000 migrant
farm workers from the Rio Grande
Valley area travel through Hope
each year.

Book the Wave program

More than 700 children, ages
two through teens, registered for
the Perry Library “Book the Wave”
Summer Reading Club which
ended with an entertaining perfor
mance by “Rico, the Clown.”
Participants decorated the
Library with cutouts of fish, sail
boats, star fish and dolphins which
represented their progress in read
ing during the summer, according
to Becky Yeatman, children’s spe
cialist at the library.
Many readers also attended story
programs and heard special com
munity guests present programs on
scuba diving, bee-keeping, fishing,
and chick raising.
Story telling programs were pre
sented by Yeatman, and “One
Heart” a musical duo from Atlanta.
Yeatman said children especially
enjoyed the skit performed by a
Perry Middle School Odyssey of
the Mind team.
Readerg may come to the
Library for their certificates and
prizes through Aug. 12, and are
encouraged to show their certifi
cates to tfieir teachers when school
begins.
During August, preschoolers and<
school agers can enjoy stories on
video on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
at 10 a.m: “Preschoolers’
Storytime” resumes on Aug. 20 at
,10 a.m. but will be held only on
ers, many of whom travel in family
units, register annually at the Hope
Migrant Mission Center.
Many professions of faith in
Christ are made by the migrant
workers while visiting the Center.
Each evening a worship service,
including singing, preaching and
religious skits or puppets, is con
ducted.
The following items will be put
into health kits by volunteers at the
Center. Items must be new and
unused: toothbrushes, toothpaste,
soap, hair brushes, combs, wash
cloths, deodorant, shampoo (2-4
ounce size), disposable razors, shav
ing cream, nail files and clippers,
ball point pens, pencils, bags for
health kits; gallon and quart-size
self sealing plastic bags.
Other needed items are : baby
shampoo, baby powder, lotion and
oil, baby wipes.
Place donations in the box pro
vided in the atrium, of First Baptist
thurch.
True Vine Outreach
Ministries services
True Vine Outreach Ministries is
located at 842 Oakridge Drive in
Perry and is pastored by Willie and
Patricia Trice.
Services are as follows:
Tuesday: Prayer meeting, 7 p.m.;
Wednesday, Bible study, 7 p.m.;
Sunday, Sunday school, 10:30 a.m.;
morning worship service, noon;
night worship service, 6 p.m.
Rafting trip planned
at Perry United
Methodist Church
The Perry United Methodist
white water rafting trip is Aug. 12-
13 Response to this trip is so great
that a bus has been rented to take
participants to the Ocoee River.
Cost is S6O plus money for two
meals one on the way and one
coming home.

The JOY Choir is rehearsing
each week and will be singing for
the worship service on AUg. 13. In
the fall, different choirs will be pre
senting music on Sunday nights at
Perry UMC.
The Sanctuary Choir will begin
rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. and rehearse
until 8:10 for Sunday morning
anthems then the choir will work
on the PraiSing music, “Mighty
Cross,” which will be presented by
the combined efforts of many of the
church choirs in Perry on Aug. 27 at
the New South Arena at the Georgia
National Fairgrounds and
Agricenter in Perry.

New Church of God
plans revival service
The new congregation of The
Church of God will be holding
revival services at 1118 Ball St., in
Perry, at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 10-12.

Parents may pick up registration
forms for Toddler Time Aug. 7-31.
Registration will not be taken by
phone. This is the only program
requiring registration since space is
limited.'
Priority is given to children
already two, but children as young
as 18 months are eligible and those
on a waiting list will be given pref
erence for the following series.

elor of science degree in sports
medicine after completing degree
requirements at Valdosta State
University.
Griffin received his degree fol
