Shell nut
honored by
policemen
From Staff Reports
Roy Shellnut was honored by
his colleagues at the Perry Police
Department and city hall Aug. 4.
Shellnut has retired from the
police force after 35 years of ser
vice.
He began his duties as a patrol
man and over the years achieved
rank of assistant chief.
“He’s been a policeman as long
as some of our officers have been
alive,” said patrol division Capt.
William Phelps. “He had a lot of
experience and we’re really going
to miss him...he knew almost
everybody in Perry and was
respected.”
Ball
brought more questions, since he
was, at the time, the third Westfield
coach in three years.
But now there is no skepticism.
Supporters agree they have one of
the top coaches in the profession.
They have become used to winning
again, and therein always lies a con
cern for a coach.
Jones is returning a solid nucle
us, though, and will not be placed in
the dreaded rebuilding category.
Granted, there were some critical
losses to graduation, but fortunately,
there are quality people ready to
step in and take over.
There are also some quality folks
returning. Players at skilled posi
tions, like quarterback Matt
Shepley, who would again be the
starter if the season began this
weekend. Jones also has rugged
fullback Tun Allen and dependable
