ELKO The children of this
Houston County community
have spent the summer learning
and growing. The program
attempts to return the old-fash
ioned thrill of success in learning
back to the children.
Instructional time donated by
two elementary teachers in the
community made the project
possible. The generosity of LeLe
Lewis and Marie Lewis will be
repaid, they said, by the
increased sense of community
accomplishments, the success of
the children, and their smiles of
independence after “making the
grade.”
Marie Lewis helps develop
the children spiritually through
Bible study, rich with music and
songs of praise to the Lord.

Saturday mornings are perfect
for extending the children’s
curiosity about geography and
math. They have been working
on geography, orienteering and
map reading.
Congregations of Elko Baptist
and Elko United Methodist
churches provided positive sup

a healthy learning environment
and snacks to keep up the energy
of the group. With this support,
the classes have now completed
their third successful year.
Evening classes began on
